Do you think I could start RTR around week 10?

Post by Missy OH » Sat Dec 18, 2010 9:29 am

Our computer crashed and we were not able to save anything from our hard drive. Unfortunately it had my 7th and 8th graders' teacher guides for the year downloaded on it. Since I have to replace it, I'm wondering about possibly just buying some of RTR. We had just started studying the crusades. We are basically just looking at it for history, but I am interested in doing the Shakespeare study also. Do I really need the student sheets for 7th and 8th grade? We are in the middle of a different Bible study, so would us not doing the Bible in RTR cause any problems? Would you mind telling me exactly what I would need to buy?

Thank you!
Missy

We are in the middle of RTR and enjoying it sooo much! :D All of it is wonderful, so whatever you end up using I'm sure you will love. If you are using RTR's history portion and the Shakespeare option for seventh and eighth grade, you'd need...
*History Economy Package with the Shakespeare option
*Basic Package of History Read-alouds
*Extension Package

NOTE: The Basic Package is used for the Storytime box, which is on the left side of the Learning Through History daily plans. You can have your students read the books or you can read them to them. The follow-up can be done with you or done independently and handed in. The follow-up takes only a few minutes.

The Extension Package is in the Appendix. It has a schedule of daily readings and suggestions for independent follow-up assignments to do on a rotating basis.

Some seventh/eighth graders that are sensitive and maybe not as strong of readers do just the Basic Package. Some do both packages. Some do just the Extension Package. So you have some nice flexibility in choosing what's a good fit for your kiddos. :D

The "Medieval History-based Writing Lessons" links to the history study as well, and may or may not be used based on your dc's needs.

The Student Notebooking pages are necessary. They match the plans and are referenced in practically every box of the guide. The notebook pages are beautiful! They have been such a great learning tool for my ds, and they help his work be organized, while also creating a lovely keepsake of what he's learned. The Shakespeare notebooking pages match the Shakespeare readings. They turn out to be so neat, and they provide a visual collection of information of what's been read. HTH! :D

After looking at it some more, we decided to just start at the beginning. It covers a few things we didn't and the the other topics will be covered slightly different.

I should have just bought this to begin with. :)

Thanks!
