Does it really work?
Does it really work?
DD(7) loves music. The other day when she was doing some school work, especially writing, my dd(22) had some classical music playing. While writing, dd(7) said she liked having the music playing, that it helped her do her work. She was very cheerful. Now I haven't tried it since, but does anyone else use soft music while your dc are doing work? I couldn't believe how well she did with her writing (that is usually a frustration). I definitely want to do that again and see if it works as well as it did the other day. She was fine with the soft classical music, but when dd(22) started playing something louder and peppier on the piano, she became uptight and distracted. So, have I found something that will help? I was so amazed!

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. III John 4

Re: Does it really work?
My dd does this too. We have some nature sounds cds (it never rains in AZ so we have to have it on CD)
and classical, all at low volumes seems to help. But it doesn't work if they are tunes they love, know and dance to. Then she can't concentrate. I think it's like a white noise sort of thing.

Re: Does it really work?
This seems to work for some kiddos and not others. I used to play classical music when I taught in ps. Some dc really responded well to it, and others wanted it more quiet during work time. I think if it's working with dd, why not continue with it? That's a neat discovery!
I bet she'd love to have her own stash of classical music to play when she wants.
I suppose as the other dc mature, they'll either follow suit or want it quiet... but at that point, she'll probably be able to work in a different area or use some headphones if need be.
How blessed your dd is that you are "in tune" to what works for her!:D
