Working ahead question.....

Post by MistyP » Mon Oct 18, 2010 7:33 am

We just found out Friday we are having TWINS!! Another girl and our first boy =) WE are quite excited but a bit overwhelmed too...... I am due March 7th.

I had planned on taking 4 weeks off of school after delivery but now I thinking that won't be long enough for a sleep deprived mama. I am wondering if we can work ahead a bit on History, Science, etc and get through most of it and then have the girls only do math and reading after the babies arrive...... I have also considered that we will just have to do school through the summer but we will probably be moving then....and have 2 babies.......  So, trying to finish up school then won't be easy either......

Wow! Congratulations! :D It is a very exciting time for you and your family. I don't know if I would try to work ahead. The plans work so well when they are savored rather than rushed through. I have done both and have found that the pacing is just right as written when you are using the age appropriate program. I wouldn't worry about when you finish your current program. Just keep working along until the babies arrive and pick it back up when you can. If you need to finish it at the start of your next year, it's not big deal. I think the biggest help will be to try to get your work prepared ahead of time to make it easy for you to pick up and go when you are ready. HOD is open and go, but sometimes I have to try to gather supplies, make a copy, or something like that which is no big deal. When you have two newborns though that can be a big deal! So getting everything in order ahead of time could be a big help. Having freezer meals prepared ahead of time will be helpful too.

Thanks Patty! After looking at our guide and the calender today; I don't think it will work. My mom had asked if we could be done with school by then and I thought maybe it would work. If it was just a couple of weeks, maybe. I have considered doing some school on Saturday mornings, that would take up 1-2 units. My dear girls today said "we can do it by ourselves!" and then said "well, maybe the spelling words and copywork!" I guess we will get done what we get done! :D

And yes, I plan on working on some freezer meals!

Whew! Congrats. Don't now that i have any advice. I am due with i child March 28th(find out gender Nov 3rd). Wondering what will happen with us and our schooling. I can't even fathom working ahead.
I actually find it more difficult to do school while preggo.
I have had morning sickness and sometimes my allergies will actually cause me to get sick. My iron was low at first... Blah blah blah..
Hard for me to get going in morning.
Bless your heart with having 2 babies at same time.
I am hoping we will only have to take off 4 weeks, but we will just have to see how it goes. It is a season. ;)

I actually find it easier to school with a newborn... I take our time off when the baby becomes mobile enough to get into things :)

But I have no idea what I'd do with twins!! Congrats!!

That is so wonderful that your girls want to help by doing school by themselves. :) Maybe they can help by looking at the book and getting out all of the books and supplies needed for that day and getting everything ready for you. That would help you out quite a bit. It might help to start training them now towards this. When your hands are full or when your belly is so big that you can't bend over  , it will be helpful to have that done for you.

One thing I thought I would mention, not to worry you but help you prepare, is that twins usually come a bit earlier than planned. So with an early March due date, you are more likely to have February babies. Also, bed rest or limited activity is not unusual towards the end of a twin pregnancy. My uterus was actually full-term size by the time I was 28 weeks pregnant. :o I was taking a labor and delivery class at the hospital and every time I went to the hospital and stepped in the elevator, people would automatically press the button for the labor and delivery floor!

I'm sure having had several pregnancies and children already, that you will be much better prepared for everything than I was. It's an exciting time! :D

I wouldn't push through it, either. Looks like your dd#2 will be young for Bigger anyway? So I'd relax about it. Keep the reading and math going as much as you can. The babies will be the lesson!!! CONGRATULATIONS! I always secretly hope for twins. :)

Congratulations on finding out you are having twins, Misty! :D Please do take comfort in knowing the Lord planned this for you, and He will not give you more than you can handle! :D I remind myself of this often! :D When I've been pregnant, it's worked well to just keep going ahead with school until I have the baby. Even though I have sometimes been sick and tired during pregnancies, I am always glad for however far I got before the little babe enters our lives. :D Then, depending on whether it was c-section or not, I start it back up within a month - give or take a few weeks. It will depend so much upon how you are feeling, how the babies are sleeping, etc. that it's near to impossible to figure it out now. So, I think I'd just keep going full-speed and enjoying it now for as long as you can, and then see what works best after that. Sometimes it's nice to start back half-speed. I actually found once we had older dc it was actually easier just to start back with school rather than have them wondering what to do during the day, but that could just be the strange household of 3 boys.
