Bigger and DITHOR

Post by Tiffini » Tue Mar 18, 2008 12:40 pm

I am getting pretty excited about using Bigger for next year - but I'm waiting for the samples of Preparing to come out before making my final decision. :)

I think I am planning on using DITHOR. My question is - would I start a 5th grader in level 4/5 if she has not used DITHOR before? I read somewhere that it might be a good idea to start everyone in level 2/3 if they have not used the program before.

Is the book list all that I would need to use to have ideas for books? Does it have books from all the genres and for each level and does it have several to choose from?

I wish someone lived close enough for me to get a good look at the Bigger program. No one happens to live in the Indianapolis area, do they?

I am north of Indy and have just received Bigger HFHG today. If you want to send me a PM about the possibility of looking at it feel free to do so.

HappyatHome,

Have you gotten a chance to look at the Bigger Sample week of plans on the HOD website? I can't link from this computer today, but on the www.heartofdakota.com site click on the drop down menu on the right side of the screen and select "Sample Pages". Then, click on the "Bigger..." ones to view.

Also, I would advise starting with level 4/5 of "Drawn into the Heart of Reading", since your child is a 5th grader (unless your little honey has some learning delays or really struggles with reading - then I would use level 2/3).

The Book List does give 10-12 selections for each type of literature for each level in the program. Otherwise, you can choose books from the "Book Shop" of our website. Scroll down the Book Shop page past the key to see each category of books and reading levels listed under each title.

Blessings,
Carrie
