Dictation

Post by mpsears » Mon Oct 04, 2010 10:10 pm

Should I state punctuation when I dictate? i.e. In the morning, (comma) he made his bed. (end of sentence) Or should the student recall it?

I could be wrong, but I believe the instructions say that dictation is about testing the grammar as well as the spelling so students need to study both. You should not be telling them the punctuation as you go...they should study this and recall it.

You don't state the punctuation, they need to recall it. Actually most of the time what my ds misses is punctuation, but that is what I also see in his writing so I look at dictation as vital for teaching him proper punctuation.

Thank you! I haven't been but was second guessing myself. Thanks for the confirmation.
