Is Rod and Staff good for someone who is very...well...English Grammar is NOT my thing. I really want it layed out pretty clear. This is a very weak area of mine.
Thanks!

Re: Rod and Staff English question
I am a big fan of Rod & Staff English. I have used it for my son from 2nd-5thgrades. It is thorough. As long as you have the teacher manual, you will do great!

Re: Rod and Staff English question
I've got to say that I learned something today in R&S 3 that I had been wanting to learn for a long time. I had always wondered about ? and ! in quotations and how they were to be handled. I don't think I was ever taught it before, but maybe I just forgot. Today I learned the proper way to do it and I don't think I'll ever forget it now. If grammar isn't your thing, R&S will still be great for you, but you might want the teacher's guide.

Re: Rod and Staff English question
I have tried 2 other grammar curriculums and liked them ok, but wasn't sure the retention was there. Rod and Staff had always intimidated my son because his best friend uses it and all my ds saw was lots of writing. This week we tried it doing it Carrie's way with doing most of it orally. I am amazed at how smooth it went and I love the teachers guide. It tells me exactly what to focus on and if I get stuck the information is right there. My ds really liked it too.

Re: Rod and Staff English question
Since English is not my first language I am loving using R&S 2 with my ds. It is so clear in it's explanation.
I do not want to miss a lesson. I did end up getting the teacher manual, because I wanted to make sure I was not making mistakes since I am learning along with my son.
I love the scriptural way they teach it and I also love the repetition. We keep reminding the kids what we learned in unit 1. "God made the sentence, he built it with words and our sentences need to be true and kind". There are so many more things the way R&S explain them that my younger kiddo's have even picked up and for me it is a joy to learn along with my oldest ds and I get to do it 2 more times.
I will be a solid in English by the time I am done homeschooling my 3 kiddo's.
You will not be disappointed using R&S. I don't know if you have seen the Julie's post on how she approached R&S. Here is the link

Re: Rod and Staff English question
I have an English degree and I can say that Rod and Staff English is the absolutely best I have found. It teaches grammar in such a "building block" kind of way that you will find yourself learning right along with your child. It is a great program!
