We are on Day 14 of Dithor(Biography) with my 7&9yos. Overall, it's been a positive experience(though I did learn that I need to do a better job of pre-screening books as a couple were a little on the upper end of the reading level for my ds9 and there were some days of frustration). Well, I've just been enjoying the "open and go" feature and forgot all about the Culmination project for Day 15 until I happened to peek at it today and now I feel like I'm scrambling to figure out what we'll do.
I'm thinking I probably need to buy the Book Projects for the level my kids are at, but I won't have it by tomorrow! The character traits could work but none of the character traits really have to do with the books we've read so it wouldn't really be a "culmination". I have no idea who we'd interview and neither of my kids are at an ability level to "take notes"(still doing lots of R&S orally and doing 2-3 sentences of poetry or Bible copywork per day). Does anyone have any suggestions for the 2/3 level for a mom who didn't plan ahead? Thx for your help!

Re: Dithor Culmination Project Question
Jennifer,
Don't panic! You're doing just fine!
Interviewing someone can be as simple as calling grandpa or an aunt or uncle on the phone and asking the questions that you have planned with your child on his/her planning form on that day of the plans.
If you prefer not to do the interview project, you can easily do the Godly character project project. That particular project is meant to focus on building Godly character in your child and is an offshoot of all of the character traits you just finished studying in that particular genre and piece of literature. So, it's focus as a culmination is different, yet in the scope of things we've discovered these character based projects are often just what the Lord would have my kiddos focus on at the time!
Last, you can easily order the Book Projects to Send Home for next unit, but I'd still urge you to mix up which type of project you choose at the end of each unit of DITHR. It is excellent to give kiddos a variety and to help them have a well-rounded experience!
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Dithor Culmination Project Question
Thx, Carrie! That does help. Think I'll work on the character stuff...
Thx again for a wonderful curriculum!
PS - We utilize a charter school in our area that allows faith based curriculum(as long as the school doesn't pay for it:). My friend who started Bigger with me met with her resource teacher(who is not a Christian) this week who looked through HOD and said that if she was creating a curriculum this is exactly what she would have done. Thought you'd like to know...

Re: Dithor Culmination Project Question
We just finished our biography (Amelia Earhart) and we made a MISSING persons poster. It was fun since she truly went missing. My son listed the year she was born, the year she went missing, and how old she would be now. He illustrated the poster of what he thought she might look like. List as many facts as you like. We also looked on the map to see where it was that they thought her plane went down. Hope this helps!

Jennifer,
Glad to help! How neat that your friend is doing Bigger. It is always great to hear another teacher say they love the set-up and design of HOD!
Thanks for sharing!
