More 'Kudos' for the Spelling methods in HOD
My son, who is doing 4th grade work with a different program this year, overheard/watched me do the Spelling practice (Beyond) with DD today. We are on Day 4, and today she had to write the missed words, largely, on a sheet of paper (1 on each sheet) in marker. Then, she traced it with glue. The idea is that when the glue dries she can 'feel' how the words are spelled. So my son, waching this, says, "Where did you get all those cool ideas for spelling activities?" I wish I could take credit; nope, not that crafty. So, I told him it was HOD. I'm so glad we'll be using HOD for ALL the kids next year...DS's response is already one of excitement, I can only imagine what it will be like when he's using Bigger.. Thanks so much, Carrie!

Oh no...don't make me do it. You are going to have me cracking open Beyond. It's sitting on the shelf. I was thinking about doing it. Now I am going to have to really look at tonight. I think I am going to have to look at doing the LA for my dd doing emerging readers.

My daughter absolutely loves it...the one who couldn't read or spell?! It's worked wonders for her, and it's a favorite part of her school day.
It's so hard to wait, isn't it? Whenever you do Beyond...I don't think you'll have trouble getting your DC to get into it!

I asked my son today how he felt he learned spelling the best, and he said right away "dictation" (which is what we're doing in the Bigger... level). We did do some R & Spelling, and some MCP Phonics workbooks too, so I asked him about those, and he said he forgets all that right away. Those were my last "adders" to HOD - it may take me some time, but eventually, I GET it!

I think it's such a positive and wonderful thing to hear kids call a learning activity "cool". Who woulda thunk that spelling could be cool?! That right there tells me that we're on the right track!

Yep-my 3rd grader loves those spelling activities-and my 4th grader's spelling, which was atrocious before with whatever program, is coming along so nicely with dictation

inHistiming,
I love hearing the excitement that the HOD activities offer! Makes it terribly hard to wait to get there though! I think I am going to call these reports about activities "teasers" from now on!
HOD is so neat the way it seems to reveal these little gems of learning that are dotted throughout all of the programs, so fun and interesting!
Loved reading your post!
