? about Preparing ordering

Post by grayce467 » Wed Jul 28, 2010 10:56 am

Hi all! I have a question as I am trying to figure out my order...excited to have my 5th grader do Preparing this coming year! He will be doing the Extension Package for 5th/6th graders. Do I order the Deluxe Package AND the Extension Package, or does the Extension package replace the Deluxe for a 5th grader? Also, is the Extension package scheduled into the program? (that's probably a silly question, since everything about HOD seems so ordered and tied down). I am so looking forward to a refreshing year free from all the exhaustive lesson planning I have been doing the past 5 years  Thanks in advance for your help.

Hello Grayce467, Welcome to HOD! :D Here is a link that may help with your question. viewtopic.php?f=6&t=4205 You should order the extension package instead of the deluxe package. Unless your 5th grader really would like to do those books in the deluxe package. There is a schedule for the extension package in the back of the Preparing teacher's manual. I just copied the page and handed it to my son to use as a bookmark. HTH :D

I wouldn't skip the Deluxe package. It is scheduled in the Independent History Study Box. Those books really add alot to the program. They won't be difficult for your son to read (some may seem too easy but the info. is good) and the assignments that go along with them really help them to move towards more independence, and that will be important when you get to the next guide. That box schedules a good bit of the copywork and the drawing lessons. I would make those books a priority and then if you think your child still needs more, add the Extension Package. My 5th grader did both this year. He absolutely loved the drawing lessons and The Young Christian's Introduction to the Bible. Plus, the Mozart study is great!

Welcome Grayce! :D

If you check out that link that Leah gave you, you'll see that in Preparing the extension pkg is actually intended to be used instead of the Deluxe pkg. So, you'll be fine if you only do one of those options. :D Since Carrie wrote it that way, I'm sure that you won't be missing anything that your child needs by not using the deluxe package, too.

We had a wonderful year with Preparing! You're in for some great, fun learning! :D
