NC and record keeping

Happy summer to all!
I'm wondering what other moms do for record keeping. I've searched and read similar topics on the board. I found an older post where someone kept a calendar with unit / day and date along with any extras and it seemed like a good idea.

We live in NC and have pretty 'easy' hs laws. We are not required, but it is recommended that we:
Maintain a current daily log, journal or lesson plan book throughout the entire school year.

It should contain:
1. Time devoted to the formal study of each subject each day;
2. Page numbers, chapters or units of the textbooks (or very brief descriptions of concepts) covered during various time periods each day

Last year I kept a weekly lesson plan, with the unit / day, plus info on each day of the pages and a summary of the topics covered. I also have a notebook with samples of his work. In some ways it seems redundant to keep all of this. What are other NC moms (or mom's in other states with similar recommendations or requirements) doing? It would be easy to not keep anything, since it is only recommended, but I want to keep some records. Just looking for ideas.

In NC, just keep your teacher's manual!! it has all of that! We also keep art, poetry, stuff like that just to keep it... and any 'other' stuff they do, like 4-H, reading program at the library, sports, AWANA, etc.

I keep my daily attendance record from the NCDNPE web site and my teacher's manual. I've kept other pieces of the children's work as well, but nothing specific that shows what we did on what day. I figure the attendance record with the teacher's manual plus some samples of their work are sufficient. I think the teacher's manual is very much like having lesson plans. I suppose if someone wanted to coordinate the TM with the attendance record, you could just add a little date notation on that page in the teacher's manual. I try to keep the book keeping to the bare minimum. Hopefully it is enough

HOD has attended ample book fairs in NC, and most of the ladies have shared they are just jotting the dates next to the unit numbers (either within the daily plans or jotting the span of the week's dates next to the unit number in the "Table of Contents"). They also keep a portfolio, usually in a 3-ring binder with tabs and clear sleeves, of the work completed in HOD throughout the year. The HOD guides are written to be your plans and your record keeping, so I agree with what you've shared, as well as what the pp's shared - no need to be redundant and reinvent the wheel. You have other things you can do with your time than rewrite what's already been written - may as well just jot the date down and file the work in a binder and call it good. HOD work makes for some impressive binders anyway! HTH as you decide what you'd like to do!

Thanks Ladies - this is all very helpful. I do keep a binder with his work, and it is so nice to have. My manual will be my lesson plan -it is anyway . I'm going to either use a monthly calendar and jot the unit / date with extras or add the date in my manual. As for their recommendation about keeping hours, well I don't think I'm going to take that recommendation. How can you keep hours when you do hs stuff all day long?

you don't have to keep hours in NC... just days I have the attendance record form too and just make a check on the days we do school, not just HOD.... I think last year we had 275 days of school?
