Second box day and a couple of questions!

Post by Michelle » Thu Jul 08, 2010 7:25 am

We just had our second box day containing everything for CTC and BLHFHG! :D We'll be beginning in about September and I do have a couple of questions.

I can't seem to find the post where it says how much time is usually spent on each "box" for CTC. I have a ds who has a strong dislike for work in general and in working on that, I want to employ a somewhat timed schedule for him.

Also, we have the DITHOR book pack level 4/5 and I was wondering if we are to complete these books in 1 or 2 years?

My dd will be doing Beyond.... and just finished Reading Made Easy with LHFHG in May. In looking at the emerging readers I'm a little scared myself that she'll be up to reading books like "Tornado" with just a few early readers in between. Is there anything in between the book Reading Made Easy and the Emerging Readers? Do kids really progress that fast? (she'll be 6 the end of August and considered 2nd grade in Sept.)

Thanks for all the help! :)

HI Michelle! Hooray for box day! :D You'll be doing just what I did most of last year - CTC and Beyond (with some LHTH too for my little guy). We had a fantastic year! :D The time increments are always so helpful to me as well. They help me set up my schedule, and then about a month into the routine of it, we really can make hay. :D Chrissy already did a great job of linking you to the CTC times, so here are the Beyond times too:
Beyond, time it takes:

Just in case you might find something helpful in it, here is a link to the schedule we used last year for those guides. We loved our year!

As far as DITHOR 4/5, it is scheduled 3 times a week in CTC. We did the first half of it last year with CTC, and will finish the other half of it this year in RTR. :D

It really is amazing how dc's reading progresses between phonics and all throughout the "Emerging Reader's Set" (ERS) books! I'm always surprised by that. One thing we did since we were getting to the ERS quite young is use both Bibles. I wanted to stretch out the set, so we did "The Early Reader's Bible" first, and then we did "The Beginner's Bible" after that. This added 9 weeks to the ERS schedule. It was perfect for our ds! That may be something you'd like to consider to ease into the set more. HTH, and I think you have a good year ahead of you! :D

In Christ,
