question for portfolio's

As our school year begins to draw to a close, I am rifling through dd's notebooks trying to pull examples of this year's work together. I pretty much have everything together except for compostion examples. This has been our first year using HOD, and I'm not sure exactly what to count as composition pieces. We used IYW I instead of WWTB.
She has an original poem, a short story, and is currently working on totally fictional but "friendly letter." What else does she need to have to show "composition" work?

You could use her Written Narrations as composition samples as well. CM actually used the words "composition" and "written narration" interchangeably. So, you should have a lot of great samples to use from Kasey's Student Notebook. It is common to show a beginning, middle, and end sample for portfolios, so your CTC notebook should be a good resource for that with its weekly written narrations. HTH! Congrats on getting ready to finish CTC - we did that just about a month ago, and it was a wonderful feeling to look back over all of the things we did for the year and celebrate our happy finish! Now, we're getting excited for RTR, which is just around the corner for us!

Thank you Julie! The law can be so vague (urk too early in morning to get spelling correct). In SC we are required to for 7th grade to teach composition and literature. From what I see though with HOD, that is something that is covered from the beginning.
We still have 14 weeks left to go. Almost there. However we are closing in our required 180 days. I am hoping will be able to start RTR in the beginning of October.
Thank yall so much for your thoughts, suggestions and support. Wouldn't have made it through this year without the wonderful people on this board.
