Hello everyone,
I have learned that my county requires portfolios to be turned in for all home schoolers. I will not have to turn one in until next year, but I would just like to know what do you include? Is there any websites for pretests and posttests for the school years so I can show where she was at when we started and where she ended up? Also do any of you have any pictures of your portfolios or hints on how you organized them? I figured this would be the best time to ask since most of you would just be at the point of completing your own.
Thank you all,
Christina

Re: portfolio pics?
Hi Christina,
Does your state have a homeschool group, that would provide the information on what is required to be in your portfolio? I would check there first, and then for HOD, maybe write down the books that you are using, samples of your kids' work in each area of learning... beginning, middle, and end of school year. Sometimes too, the state may want your lessons plans, in which case, I would just use the entire HOD manual. I am going to be doing a portfolio this fall, and I will just use the manual. My kids are in different places in English, math, and reading, so I will keep track of that separately.
Hope that helps a little bit.

Love my husband of 18 years this year;
Love my 3 teenagers--13, 15, and 16. They keep me young, but hanging on for dear life!
Used HOD in the earliest years with all three of them!

Re: portfolio pics?
Hi there! We just have tabs in a 3 inch 3 ring binder with clear plastic sleeves for a neat portfolio of each year. The tabs vary with the guides, but usually we have a copywork tab, a science experiments tab, science notebooking tab, history notebooking tab, in the younger guide we have a "projects" tab. This would be where you could take pics if you wanted. With CM style learning, progress can be shown by beginning, middle, and end samples, as opposed to tests. Here is a post where Carrie answered a similar question:

With some programs, there is not enough neat activities, projects, and assignments to actually create a lovely portfolio. With HOD, there is more than enough to make a keepsake portfolio, so I'd go that route if I were you! HTH!
