Book Projects to Send Home

Post by John'smom » Fri May 21, 2010 3:42 pm

It seems like these are out of print.. I'm not even seeing the one for DITHOR Level 2/3 I just purchased from HOD on the HOD website. I was wondering which exact ones DITHOR uses in future levels so when I'm at used book stores, thrift stores, etc. I could be on the look out for them. Thanks for the info. :D

These are OOP, and Carrie will be doing a rewrite for them after completing her writing of RTR. :D For now, there are 2 other options that can be done instead of the Book Projects... option, so you'll still be set to use DITHOR effectively. :D I know Carrie has been carefully researching a replacement(s) for awhile and will make her final decision when RTR is completed. HTH! :D

I've been using DITHOR for 2 years, and we've always used, "How to Report on Books." I also looked on abebooks.com, and they have several copies of "Book Projects to Send Home." I've had great luck with abebooks. HTH!

Blessings!

What are the other two options Julie? Sorry, this is probably obvious but I don't know what they are!

Thanks!

One of the other two options is always a project on the Godly character trait that was studied within the genre. The second of the of the other two options is a Group Project, which reinforces the story element that was studied. Even if you only have 1 child though, the "group" can be mom and child, or it can even be with a younger sibling (or a much older sibling) who is not doing DITHOR but could enjoy being part of the project. We have done that several times. For example, the group project option for the genre "Biography" is to interview someone. My ds, my middle ds (who was too you to be doing DITHOR at the time), and I all wrote interview questions to ask my Dad about his attending country school as a child. It went over so well, we made copies of the questions and had the rest of my dc's grandparents answer them. Anyway, every genre the Godly character trait project and the Group project are options to use, and they change every genre. HTH! :D

P.S. My Dad rode his horse Beauty to country school. My sons loved hearing about this, and they also thought it was amazing that Beauty would just drop off my Dad at school, and then gallop home on her own. My Grandpa would tap her on her backside to "send" her back to school to pick up my Dad at the end of the school day. My boys thought this to be a grand adventure and a wonderful way to get to and from school! :D Just had to share for fun.

That's a neat, side story about your Dad. I had no idea that a horse could be so well trained to do that. How fun that your children got to hear that story through their studies! :D :D :D

We really had fun with our first DITHR project. The projects all looked like so much fun that we did two. We had studied Humor (level 2/3) and two of the books they each read were Frog and Toad books. So we did the character tube puppets from the Book Projects. One made Frog and the other made Toad. Then they did one of the scenes from the book as a little puppet show which was one of the other suggested projects. They had a blast with it and we enjoyed their performance :D

There are already so many good project choices, but I'm looking forward to seeing what other options are going to become available in the future.
