Decisions, decisions, any thoughts?

Hi, Ladies! We are finishing our 2nd year with HOD and are loving it. This fall ds, who will turn 8 in the summer, will start in Bigger for 3rd grade. He has used the emergent readers this year. Dh wants to wait to start DITHOR, possibly mid year next year and maybe not till the following fall. Well, fast forward to today, I'm compiling my list of needed items for next year, feeling pretty good and then I realize ... I don't have any books selected for ds to read independently. I'm thinking about using the level 2 book pack for DITHOR anyway or I could find books in that genre and at a similar reading level.

What do you think? What would you do?

i think you could do either.
I know that Carrie has recommended just continuing on to DITHOR after finishing Emerger Readers. You could always just do it less often a week to stretch it out a little bit.

My son will finish probably around November and i plan on just continuing into the DITHOR and see what happens.
He will have turned 7 in October and doing Beyond for 2nd grade.

He loves to read. He just read his first Magic Tree House book.
Maybe those are possible books for your ds if he hasn't already read them.

Carrie has a great book list. I got books out of the library and renewed them once. For her Dithor work If it was a book she loved loved loved I often would buy it for her as a gift for finishing that book .

Angie, I hadn't even thought about checking my beyond manual and you're right - there is a list of beginning chapter books right after the questions. As much as I use this manual - why had I never noticed it? thanks again for bringing it to my attention.

My DD is going to be in 3rd next year. I've decided to wait on DITHOR until she's in 4th. It's going to be our first year with HOD, so I'm planning on doing some of the Emerging Reader books (and additional chapter suggestions) as well as some of the level 2 DITHOR books and just start with the level 3 ones for 4th...that will still give us plenty of time with DITHOR.
