Little Hearts for His Glory - Kindergarten

Post by weezsingn » Mon May 17, 2010 2:18 pm

New to the Hearts of Dakota.

Question: If I order the economy and the basic packages will I have everything that I need for the school year? I don't need any other books?

Thanks :D

You'll need a bible (or use your own), a handwriting program and a phonics program. Carrie has recommendations, but you can use your own. We used LHFHG for 1st grade, having not found HOD until after K, and we used our own kids Bible and continued with our phonics program. I did pick "a reason for handwriting" b/c I wasn't happy with the program we had started with.

Hope you love LHFHG as much as we did (do)!

Those books are not in the economy or basics packages?
Is there a easy way to order everything and have those extra books as well?
Thanks

Just like khbmom said handwriting, phonics, and Bible would also be needed

We used our own storytime bible and regular Bible we already had, our own handwriting and we had already started using Teach your child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons so we continued with that.

I have 4 more units left with my son in LHFHG for "K" this year and my daughter is already excited to be using it next year for "K".
Welcome aboard :)

There is - after you add the packages to your cart, you can add those extras you want - they're on the right side of the LHFHG page in yellow.

Hope this helps.

i think you can just click "add to cart" from this page: http://www.heartofdakota.com/little-hearts-packages.php

I haven't actually done that because i didn't order any of these items.

I think I am getting it!

Was wondering what your recomendations would be for the Bible, handwriting, and phonics.

My daughter is a very smart 5 and already can write all of her letters. Was thinking of doing to Italics because I heard it creates beautiful writing. Any comments on this?

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

i can't really comment on handwriting, because we just loosely do it. i got a SPiderman wkbk from dollar tree for my son and he loved it and then i just had him copy lines related to whatever we were doing in HOD each week after that. Like i found a 4-line little phrase about Abraham Lincoln and he did that last week.

My daughter is already writing letter well, too.

Teach Your child to read in 100 easy lessons
worked well for us and it was very inexpensive compared to alot of phonics programs. i checked it out from my library before i bought it.

We used the Beginners Bible because we already had it and loved it and it is used in the Emerger Reader list when you get to that.
WE used our own Bible if the verse from HOD weren't in our story Bible.

Hope that helps.

Gotta go check the chicken :0

Welcome to HOD! :D

We've had a wonderful year with LHFHG!! I'm sure that it will bless your family, too. :D

We used the Family-Time Bible with LHFHG. I really liked choosing one that HOD has scheduled in the guide because the page numbers are right there and I don't have to guess which story I was supposed to read to correlate with the rest of the day's lessons. Carrie does list the actual scripture verses from the Bible if you don't wish to use a story Bible. My kids have loved using the story Bible during school though.

We're happily finishing The Reading Lesson. I love the simplicity of the book & program. I know that there are a TON of great phonics programs out there (and my oldest started with a different one - we tried 100 ez lessons and he used Saxon Phonics), but we have found The Reading Lessson to be a great fit for us! It's inexpensive and super-easy to use. We use the CD on the computer with it, and my daughter has learned to read and loves it! :D

We've enjoyed A Reason for Handwriting because I really like that it has my kids copying a Bible verse that they can share at the end of the week. (Now the K level has them working on letter formation and coloring a picture to go with it. Which I found really helped my little writer - because she hadn't done much practice on lines. ) If you prefer Italic, I'm sure that option is great, too. I know this is an area of personal preference.

:D Kathleen

I forgot to add: If you click on the link that Jenn gave you above, you'll notice a lightbulb near the top of the page that says How To Order...and it lays it out step-by-step for you! :D
