I didn't read the other replies, so hopefully I'm not repeating much, but this TOTALLY fits us. We have a smallish house (1200 square feet), and not garage and no basement. I will share what I have found helpful for us!
1) stick to the basics. In other words, if you don't need it, you don't need it. So, if the kitchen table works, then why get a desk and add more "clutter" to your space. Been there, done that, and I got rid of the desk!!!
2) Have things readily available if possible. We have a cabinet that I bought specifically for craft stuff/homeschool stuff right by our kitchen table. The stuff that we use weekly/daily goes in there. I have another cabinet in my bedroom that has stuff that we have already used or will use in the future that I need to hold onto.
3) Maximize your space with vertical storage. A tall skinny cabinet is better than a short fat one!
These have been the biggest help for us!
