links on older thread are broken, help please

Post by crlacey » Mon May 10, 2010 7:10 am

I was reading through some of the archived thread for Preparing trying to get an idea of what is covered since it looks like a lot of Biblical history (1st half of units cover Bible times) and not as much world history as DH would like (only 16 units for the last 2000 years). (I'm trying to prove him wrong, but having a very difficult time finding out what is covered other than the unit titles so if you want to help me with that, I'd appreciate it.) Anyway, I see that 2 links in the following thread are not working anymore. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=1458 It looks as through they were articles in the home page that have been moved.

I can't help with the link either, but one thing you might want to see if anyone has a copy of Child's History of the World and that would also give you an idea of what is covered. The first 3 chapters are skipped, but other than that every chapter is covered. Also look at the story time and Independent history reading books because those are also used to cover different time periods. The first 4 units are pretty much bible history covering creation and the flood, but after that bible history is mixed in with events in the rest of the world. Just glancing at CHOW there are chapters on Egypt, several chapters on Greece including the Trojan War, the Phoenicians and their contributions such as the alphabet, the history of Rome, the Assyrians, Babylonia, India in 2500 BC, Ancient China, More about Rome, the Golden Age of Greece, Alexander the Great, Hannibal, More on Rome including information on Caesar and Nero, Vikings, Attila the Hun, King Arthur, a chapter on Ethiopia and another on Muhammed, History of Europe, Middle Ages, Some of England's History, The Crusades, Richard the Lion-Hearted, Genghis Khan, Marco Polo, Joan of Arc, Columbus and other explorers, Renaissance, Queen Elizabeth and the Elizabethan period, Shakespeare, chapters on Kings of England and Kings of France, A little Russian history, Revolutionary War, French Revolution, Napoleon, Latin American and Simon Bolivar, Civil War, Age of Invention, Industrial Revolution, World War I and II, history of United Nations, Russia and Communism, Korean War. It is just an overview of history so none of these topics is covered in depth, but I feel like my son has learned a lot of key figures and key time periods. His huge timeline also helps to refresh his memory.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed. I tried looking for sample of CHOW, but could not find anything online. This helps me get a better idea of what other pieces of history are covered.

Crystal,

Lynn & Angie have already given you a great picture of the things that are covered in Preparing. I LOVED the way that Preparing overviewed the Big picture of history and helped ME see how everything in the world fit together and how we could see what was going on in the Bible at the same time. We had a wonderful year!! :D And like they said...not anything in-depth, but that's to come in the next 4 guides. Just the big framework pegs to hang the other details on later.

For your links, when you click on them and then they don't appear....go up to the web address and where it says "board", make it say "board3" and then they'll work. Those must be links that were posted before the board was updated. I tried it and it works. You don't have to change anything else, just add the 3 in the right spot.

Thanks Kathleen. I should have thought of that. I guess my brain was not fully in gear yesterday since I normally remember that the boards made a switch awhile back.
