HOD Bigger Activities?
Can anyone give me some examples of the activities in HOD Bigger? We like activities that include making things, coloring, drawing, notebooking etc. I don't really care for doing things such as acting, pushups, jumping around on a circle on the floor. Does it sound like I will like HOD activities?

Re: HOD Bigger Activities?
Hi Summer.
The only activities with motor type skills that I can think of are in the Bible memory portion. You could easily skip that part if your kids don't need the movement to help with memorization. My kids have enjoyed that part.
Some examples of activities in Bigger are
drawing a self portrait when learning about Samuel Morse
drawing and diagraming the layers of a leaf from the One Small Square book
singing, copying, & painting activity when learning about The Star Spangled Banner
building a wharf with rocks when learniing about Benjamin Franklin
painting an ocean scene when learning about Columbus
making a paper Indian "blanket"
draw and label parts of a flower
These are just a few I remembered doing.
There are science exp., geography activities, art projects, notebooking, etc...scheduled every week. It is a very hands on program, but everything is simple to do and not time consuming.
Hope this helps a little.

Summer - Allison did such a nice job of answering your question already, that I'll just add that a great way to see what's being done in Bigger Hearts is to check out the photobooks. There is one dedicated to Bigger Hearts at this link:

Also, the weekly check-in is a neat place to look as well:
moedertje just had one about Bigger at this link...

I had one at this link...
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=6100
We both had one at this link:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=5939
Kathleen has excellent weekly check-in's for Bigger from last year too - here's a link to one:
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2946&p=21701
We love the activities in Bigger - even the ones that are the calisthenics for Bible memorization, but those are the only physical ones, and they're pretty low-key - like 10 jumping jacks.
Just enough to get the wiggles out without making 'em break a sweat.
The rest of the activities are hands-on learning things, and an excellent way to learn. HTH!
In Christ,
Julie
