CtC or RTR?

Post by inhisgrip » Sat May 01, 2010 1:41 pm

Last year we started off the year with creation to Christ. We only did it for a few weeks when I kind of had a difficult time with my oldest son and his schooling (which was nothing new) and we ended up ditching everything and going to textbooks for the year.

We now have a plan for outlr oldest son to help him get his school done and get into his college testing faster. That's neither here nor there.

Anyhoo - my daughter has asked me that whatever we pick we that we not switch again. I totally agree and really am determined not to switch curriculums again. She did a few weeks in CtC but it really intrigued by RtR. She is about to be 11 and in 6th grade.

Any thoughts? Could we skip CtC? Or any other ideas?

Thanks
Christine

Of course you could do either one, but having her do CTC this year and then RTR next year takes advantage of the nice chronological progression and can only help with a strong grasp of history. :) Plus I know the skills in the guides build on each other. CTC is full of such great stuff I'd hate to have missed it, and we're only a third of the way through. I know RTR looks great though and I'm impatient to get to it too.

Well, all of HOD's guides are awesome, which means both CTC and RTR are great choices to use. :D So, proper placement is really your best friend in choosing which book to do. :D I think it is a huge determining factor for how successful a year can be. Not to mention each guide builds upon the last one. So, if a student comes into a guide not having the proper skills to do it, those little "I"'s that stand for "Independent" naturally really won't be so independent for the student who is not prepared for them. So, if you could check out placement chart, especially the first page of it, and share your thoughts about those areas, we will all chime in and chat this through with you! :D Here's a link to the chart:
