ETC with The Reading Lesson
ETC with The Reading Lesson
For those of you who have supplemented with the ETC books, which ones did you do with TRL? Levels 1-3? Did anyone continue on with them while doing the emerging readers? How did you work them into your schedule (how many pages per day, etc.)? Just looking for some ideas....

Re: ETC with The Reading Lesson
We just finished TRL with my newly 7 y/o son, and I'm having him work out of ETC Book 2 right now, as well as just practice reading in some simple books before jumping into the Emerging Readers. So I think levels 1-3 are right on target. I only have him do 1, maybe 2 pages, a day... gotta keep it short and sweet! He tires out easily on writing!
And hey, I'm a mom of 3, too!
Take care!

Re: ETC with The Reading Lesson
We use ETC with R&S Reading now that we have finished the Emerging readers (but were not ready to move on to DITHR just yet). I think ETC is a strong program. My son is reading at a 4th grade level at the age of 6 and ETC was what got him there. ETC also really helped him learn to print. We are now on ETC book 5 and will finish it/start book 6 by the end of 1st grade.

Re: ETC with The Reading Lesson
I've been using them along with TRL with Allison. She loves to write, so they're fun for her. We're just starting the 3rd ETC book and we're nearing the end of TRL. I usually have her do 2 pages a day. I glanced at ETC 4, and it seemed to me that there was a big jump in what they did with that book. I think we're going to call it good after the 3rd one as we're moving on into the Emerging Readers. It's been fun to see Allison take off as a reader. She loves reading absolutely everything now!

This may be a silly question, but what is ETC?

Re: ETC with The Reading Lesson
We are using ETC as well...just started this (late) fall. My ds is in K and has just moved into level 2, and is doing well. We're only on about lesson 52 of RME but ETC has really helped in sounding out words (not in his lessons) as well as with speed in his lesson reading....although he's still fairly slow. Anyway, I feel it's been a real help for him and I plan to continue through the entire series, just for re-enforcement. We are also using level 5 with my dd 10 who just needed some extra review in phonics, for spelling issues. It is helping her too, and she will continue up through level 8 as well. I have them each do 3 pages a day because they enjoy using the books, but 1 or 2 a day would be perfectly fine.

I thought of one more question -- do you just do the workbook pages or do you do all the activities listed in the teacher's guide as well?
