I'm Finally Finished!!!

Post by John'smom » Wed Apr 21, 2010 6:24 pm

I've looked over all of Beyond Little Hearts and can I say I am still as excited!!!! Everything looks so doable for both my dc. It's living books, fun hands on stuff, poetry, copywork, and the list goes on and on. Basically it's everything I want and I don't have to plan a thing. After reading through the manual, I've come to realize that there is just so much more Bible and character in Beyond than the impression I got from the 1 week sample online. I'm just so please with that. Oh, and I love the Morning Bells book. So convicting even for this momma, who isn't a child, but is still a child of God. Love, love, love, Frances Havergal.

I've already started my ds on the Emerging Reader's List. He's starting with Christian Liberty Nature Reader: Book 1. I've attempted to start this book with him in the past, but I was trying to have him read too much of it at once. I love how it's broken up in small chunks. It's not that the book was too hard for him, but it wasn't one that interested him so much. The smaller chunks are doable and I love that the questions to ask him are already thought out. We've put lots of books on hold at the library as well, the titles that are suggested as supplemental. He's loving them all.

My dd is only in K but is an earlier and stronger reader than her brother was at that age. I'm really trying to hold her back from reading the books from the Emergent Reader's List. She really wants to read them. She's already read some of the suppplemental ones like Dust for Dinner and Chang's Paper Pony.

I am so happy with our find in HOD. In the past I've only used unit studies. I'm a perfectionist. In Cathy Duffy's 100 Top Picks, she mentions that Perfect Paulas tend to go for unit studies, because it seems like the perfect thing to use. She also mentions that a Perfect Paula prefers a checklist though. I think I've really found the perfect combination in HOD though, the use of living books, fun hands on activities, subjects that tie into each other, etc. Sounds a lot like a unit study in a way to me. HOD has all that plus all the wonderful things that Charlotte Mason suggested as well. Plus I didn't have to plan any of it out!!!! Now that's HUGE for this momma who was feeling burnt out. Thanks for listening to me go on and on. Can you tell I'm happy and excited? :D

YEAH! So excited for you! :D You are going to love Beyond. And you are right it is so much more than you can tell it is at first. I was surprised as we use it how deep it really is. My two girls are absolutely loving it! I will tell you today my 8 year old told me she wanted to get to Bigger. I asked her why and she said "Because Bigger is more Beyond!" I thought that was the funniest thing. She loves it and is thinking that Bigger will be just a longer day of Beyond, hahaha! And I will tell you my older kids did the beyond activity today because they felt cheated that they missed it (they started HOD with BIgger). I am thinking if a 12 year old is still excited to do the things in Beyond that is pretty good!

I know you will have a blessed year with Beyond. It is a wonderful program! :D

My son just started reading the Christian Liberty Reader 1 , also. He loves it! I also bought the next 2 in the series for supplemental reading in the future and he was already checking those out. We are finishing up LHFHG, so we will be enjoying BLHFHG right along with ya, next school-year.
I love hearing how excited everyone gets over HOD. It isn't just me.

Edwena,

I'm so glad that you thoroughly enjoyed your read through Beyond and the glimpse of what your sweet kiddos have ahead of them! We are truly loving our tour through Beyond with my third little guy (after doing it previously with my second son)! :D We pray it will bless your family on your homeschool journey and draw you ever closer to our Lord. :D

Thanks for sharing your enthusiasm. It blesses me so much as I'm busy writing these days. :D

Blessings,
Carrie
