Okay, I have another question!!
Okay, I have another question!!
Hi ladies! Just when I thought I had it all figured out.......
I was going to group my 6 yr old girl and my almost 8 yr old son together in BLHFHG. I was about to add up my totals and get ready to place my order in the next few days. THEN..... I got to thinking about the problems that come up when I have my two kids doing the same academic activities. While my son is definately older and more mature in his comprehension, thinking, reading skills;my daughter is very quick to answer questions, especially skill type school questions. And she LOVES this kind of thing. MY son, on the other hand is often slower in answering, very sensitive(especially about feeling that his little sister is "smarter"than him-not my words, his), and has more trouble with a few things.
All that to say that I am beginning to think that maybe I should have him in BLHFHG and her in LHFHG, just to have them doing different things. I have read other posts saying that this is doable. I am just wondering how much time it might take, and what your thoughts are on this. I am really thinking that if it is not that difficult, (I also have a three yr old boy running amok most of the time!) ,I should go this route. I am thinking that this might be God's leading because I was totally ready to place them together.
Thanks,
Kelly

I can't answer your question about how long it will take to do the progams since I haven't done it. (My guess from what others have said is that you could be done with both in about 2 1/2 to 3 hours.)
I would say from your post that I agree, it might be best to keep them separate...which could also help with your 3 yr old. I have had my kids take turns playing with my youngest while the other one is doing school. It works great! The boys (ages 7 and 1 now) love it! They zoom up the stairs to play cars and have a great time. My dd who is 3 dresses the 1 yr old up in her princess clothes and shoes regularly. They usually make a huge mess, but will have great memories of playing together!

Kathleen,
I had to laugh when I read your post because that sounds like my kids. The two boys (7 and 3) play cars and my daughter (6) dresses up the 3 yr old and he loves it! They also play Angelina Ballerina together all the time! My hubby isn't so happy about this though.
I say it just comes with having a sister close in age and the brother being too young to care that it is girl stuff! He just loves that she gives him so much attention.
I love it when they play together so nicely. My kids fight, but in general they have a good relationship. Another benefit of homeschooling!!!

can't give you any real world advice about your situation. But I think if I were faced with that dilemma, I'd probably keep them separate so there's no competition and your son has his own work.

Kelly,
Here's a link to a previous thread that might help a little:
http://www.heartofdakota.com/board/view ... e+separate
There are many other threads about moms separating their kiddos for the very reasons you mentioned. I just grabbed Amy's because I remembered responding to it. I know Sharon chose to separate her daughter too, so she may pop in and respond later. Mary also has her kiddos separate!
I think that personality of children makes a big difference in how well it works to combine them. I'm sure some other moms will pop in here to sort through this with you too!
Blessings,
Carrie

Kelly,
Assure your husband that the Angelina Balerina phase will pass with your son. My littlest son played dress up and with dolls (actually so did my older one) with sister and is very much a boy! I think it made him feel special to play with her and have her attention. He still begs them to play with him when they are not doing school; or even when they are doing school! Now, he is very into legos, star wars, cars, etc.. So, take lots of pictures, because these days will be gone. You need evidence to show his wife someday....

I second what inhistiming said! My son is the oldest, and was blessed with 3 little sisters! So, since we homeschooled all of them, he spent much time playing "their way" (dolls, dress-up), and they also spent much time playing "his way" (cars, wrestling, LOL). They are all perfectly NORMAL kids
Ds has begun to show quite an interest in girls (or rather a particular girl
), loves computers, comic books, action figures, and roughhousing. And my girls are all as girly as can be. It was just a special time for them to learn to defer to the opposite sex, I think. Good training for future spouses-for husbands who have to look at their wives' 12 choices of black shoes and say which one looks best, when they look the same to him, or carry a flowery diaper bag while he takes the baby outside so momma can rest; and for wives who have to smile while hubby chatters on about his favorite sports team, or how exciting his latest tool purchase was

Thanks for all of your replies. I think I am going to go ahead and just buy separate programs. You know what is so cool though? I was so ready to go ahead and combine them and so excited about purchasing and beginning, and God just totally stepped in because He knows my children and knows what will be best for them!! I seriously had my mind made up! God is so good and continually amazes me with His involvement in every area of our lives. I have especially seen this as it relates to my children. He always provides what they need, and often arranges things just to bless them!!
This is kind of long, but on topic- My oldest son is SSOOOOO into airplanes, flying, etc.(what 7yr old boy isn't?) He reads tons of books about this and has been saying that when he grows up he wants to be a commercial jet pilot. My husband is a co and pulled over a guy for a small thing and got to talking to him and found out he does that for a living. My husband told him about our son and tonight they are all getting together so the pilot can meet Sam(my son) and give him some cool plane/pilot things. The pilots young boys are all into cop things, so my hubby is taking the car and going to let his boys have some police badges, etc.
All this to say that God totally has provided things like this for my kids. Things that are not mere coincedence, but blessings for them from the hand of God. It is so neat. I bet you all know exactly what I mean. I wonder why I ever doubt or worry, having such a great, loving God!!!
Sorry so long, I am just happy!!!!!
