5th gr and Preparing: Add writing program?
Ds10 will be in 5th grade next year and using PHFHG. Do I need to add a separate writing program for him? I know that PHFHG does include some writing, but I wondered if I should and Igniting Your Writing or some other program? Thanks!

Preparing will have ALL you need for writing between Rod and Staff and the assignments that are built into each week with poetry and history. I would not add a thing.
With Joy!

Re: 5th gr and Preparing: Add writing program?
I am not planning to use R&S for LA. We have used it before and did not care for it. Ds will either be doing Phonics Road (if I can get him through all the levels) or another program...possible GWG. Not sure yet. So, if he doesn't do R&S, then should I add a writing program? Thanks.

Sue,
My ds is in 5th grade and finishing up Preparing. I did add Igniting your Writing based on Carrie and Julie's suggestion since I was not using Rod and Staff (I was using GWG at the time). I was very glad I did. My ds is a reluctant writer and he loved the activities in Igniting. There are 3 levels within the one guide to choose from so we did the easiest level called start up, but you could choose whichever one you thought was appropriate. I think the humor in Igniting appeals to boys also, at least it did to my ds.

Thank you. My initial thought was to add Igniting for him. I saw the samples and it did seem it would appeal to boys! I think my ds will like it.
