Hi I'm new and I have a question.
Hi I'm new and I have a question.
Right now we are in between History and Science curriculums, because we will be gone for 2 months on an RV trip. Durring our trip we will be using the wonderful places we visit as our H/S "curriculum". Anyway I am wondering if anyone has done BHFHG with children ages 6 and 8 together? I would really like to only do 1 yr. Amer. His. then move on to the History overview of Preparing. My girls really want to do chronological His.( I've explain this to them), but I think I can convince them to do 1 yr. American
. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Hi I'm new and I have a question.
corallyod,
Welcome to the board! We're glad to have you here!
Bigger Hearts is typically for kiddos aged 7-9 with extensions for ages 10-11.
Unless your 6 year old would be 7 by the time you begin Bigger Hearts, it would likely be pretty challenging for him/her.
A good way to be sure would be to check out the placement chart linked here: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php
Place each of your kiddos individually, paying the most attention to the first page of the chart when placing your kiddos. Once you have done that, you'll be able to see whether your kiddos could combine and if so, within which program.
Since you shared your children are 6 and 8, I'd lean toward Beyond. However, if they will be 7 and 9 when you begin you could consider Bigger Hearts instead.
Once you've had a chance to check out the placement chart, feel free to pop back in and share your thoughts with us. We'd be glad to toss around possible options.
Blessings,
Carrie

Re: Hi I'm new and I have a question.
Thank you for responding. I'll check out the chart. You answered my main question. I was wondering if it could be used with younger children, mainly the His/Science portion. I guess not then. I would really like to keep them together for those subjects, but I'll still take a look. Thank You
.

Re: Hi I'm new and I have a question.
Welcome to the HOD Board!
HOD is such a blessing in our home, and I think you'd love it as well. We just finished Beyond, and are now doing Bigger. It has a totally different feel to it than Beyond, as it is biographical. Beyond covers 1565-1860's, and Bigger covers 1500's to 1970's, so while there is some overlap, it still feels so new, between the years and event vs. biographical focus. My older ds did Beyond and then Bigger years back (he's now doing CTC), and he STILL wants to hover near us and listen in as I'm reading the history to my middle ds. We just finished Beyond a month ago, and are now enjoying Bigger half-speed. About the middle of last school year, I finally had my oldest ds just work on his independent stuff at the table near us while I read Beyond (and now Bigger) to my middle ds, as he loved to listen in and I figured, why not?
So, I'd encourage you to take a peek at the chart and share what you think as far as placement goes, as we'd all love to kick around some ideas with you so you can find a placement you'd enjoy.
In Christ,
Julie
