OT update on my mom's surgery

Post by rainbowacreshs » Wed Feb 24, 2010 9:50 pm

My mother had her surgery today. Dr was able to sucessfully do the wedge resection, the cancer does not appear to have massetimize (sorry for spelling been a very long day). She is in ICU and will probably be there for at least two more days or until she is able to have all the tubing removed and is able to be off the epidural (for pain management). She is breathing on her own, though they are giving her a little bit of oxygen, and was even sitting up at 930 this evening eating a cup of applesauce and some very weakly brewed hot tea. The doctor is hopeful she will be moved into a regular room by the weekend with the outlook of discharge towards early next week. She may still have to do some mild/short term chemo, will know better once they recieve the final pathology of the mass.
Thank you all for your continued prayers it means so very much to me and family knowing that our family in Christ extends so far beyond the walls of our church. "Where two or more are gathered" praise God for that promise and comfort.

That sounds like good news overall - I'll continue to pray! I do believe strongly in the verse you shared, and there are 2 or more gathered here praying for your mom. :D

Visited my mom this evening and took Kasey with me. MeMaw (her grandma name) was in good spirits, is eating a regular diet and has been sitting upright in a chair through the day. She has also been working on what we are calling the "Grandma Book", a short compliation of all the things it means to her to be MeMaw.
She still needs O2 assistance but the dr's are working to wean her off as well as hoping to have all the drain tubing removed by the end of the weekend. They may keep her in ICU through the weekend and hopefully in a regular room by Monday and still hopeful for a discharge sometime early next week.
Hoping to take Kasey on Saturday so she and Memaw can sit and play cards for a little bit.

Thank you again for all the prayers.

Things are still looking on the up and up praise God! This evening Mom said they are thinking about moving her to regular room by Sunday if not tomorrow :) Her drain tubes are now starting to run clear and she is in overall good spirits. She was able to focus a bit more and have a conversation without dozing off :P
Again and again thank yall for the continued prayers. :D

Praise the Lord, Jasmine! All glory and honor are due Him - I am so glad to hear this update. We need to enjoy our more elderly family members every moment we have with them - each day is truly a gift. Thank you for reminding me of that! :)

Mom is being moved to a regular room this afternoon! :D We may be able to look at a discharge towards mid-week this coming week. She's really beginning to feel that "cabin fever" and was a bit grumpy yesterday. Please be praying for her comfort and perhaps patience as we have to wait on the healing to happen in its own time.
Schooling for Kasey has been slowed down to half speed and I'm doing my best not fret over that. Now that we have gone completely HOD I'm able to know exactly where we are and how much we got done. LOL instead of tryin to look at different lesson plans, I just have to look and say we did the left half today, we can do the right tomorrow. I am so thankful for this curriculum especially in this time of our lives.

Thank yall again for continued prayers and support. Will update again soon. :)

Found out this afternoon, mom will be released to go home tomorrow! :D Our next hurdle will be meeting with the cancer center to determine follow up treatments. She may still have to do short-term/mild chemotherapy. Please continue to pray for compassion, strength, discernment, healing and wisdom. Thank yall so very very much.
