Star-Spangled Banner Art

Post by dawntx » Mon Feb 22, 2010 11:24 am

I am having a hard time with this art project and wondered if anyone has any hints if you have done this. Do I need really thinned paint? Do we have too much paint? Are we blowing at a wrong angle? When I put a little paint in the corner and blow w/ the straw it's not really "bursting" it's just spreading the blob of paint. Help!!!??!

Hi Dawn! Could you remind me what Unit and Day this was from in Bigger Hearts? Having done each of the HOD guides makes the projects hard to separate for me sometimes. :D

Oh thanks! I remember now. We ended up having some fun experimenting with angles of "blowing". I think we even had fun cutting a straw in half, and seeing how that changed the paint. I just figure art is a form of personal expression, and each person's will turn out differently. So, any result is a good one! :D Here is a link to Grant, Kathleen's son, doing this project. I thought his turned out really neat! You can arrow down to "Kathleen's" post to see it. :D

At first we had trouble, too, but we thinned with water and cut straws in half and then it was fun!

Hi Dawn!

Julie linked you to my kids' pictures. They had a blast with it!! :D I just dumped a little washable Crayola kids paint on the 4 corners as is. Washable is a good idea...because we had a very colorful table when this was done.

The kids kind of figured out which angle just made a bigger blob and which caused more of a splatter.

Have fun!
