Questions about Beyond and Little Hands

Post by christyg » Thu Feb 04, 2010 9:30 am

Hi ladies! I hope that you are having a blessed morning! :D I have a question. I have been doing a little planning ahead trying to decide what to order for this coming fall. We will be doing Beyond with my daughter who will be 7 and Little Hands with my son who will be 5. So, my question is about the Beyond Storytime selections (Classic, Boy, Girl). I saw the post earlier about someone combining a boy and girl and which set to pick, but I would like to know what set you would recommend for us. We will use them with my daughter and then pass them down to my son. I had thought about doing the classic set and just sticking with it. But, I don't want to miss out on any good books. Do you recommend me ordering the classic set for school and then the girl set this year as bedtime stories? And then just ordering the boy set when he gets there? What have you done in this situation?

Also, is there a Storytime set that goes with Little Hands?

As always, thanks so much for all of your help!!

Christy :D

Are you doing Little hands to Heaven or Little Hearts for His Glory? The Little hearts for his glory has a storytime using the Thorton Burgess books. they are great!

i am going to mix and match my Beyond set of story-time because of reading levels and interest levels. WE are using mostly the classic set. i have a Boy who will be 7 in Ocotber and will use them with him and then my daughter who will be 5 1/2 in the fall will use the LHFHG. when she gets to Beyond, we will just use the books her brother used unless there is one she just can's stand.

i can list what we picked later. right now i HAVE to go change a 2yr olds diaper.

Well, I have all boys and have gradually gotten all of the books (even the girl interest ones) just because I think they are all so good. This is helping me slowly build my own personal home library. The classic set requires a more seasoned reader than either the boy interest or girl interest books do. With my oldest, we did the classic set, and then I got the boy interest set the next year for him to read on his own. After that, I got the girl set, as I wanted those on hand as well. With my middle ds,I did the boy interest set for Beyond's Storytime with him. This may just be me, but I was excited to read different books the second time around doing Beyond. Not that I didn't love the classics - just that I enjoyed reading different books with my middle ds as it was just a fun change. So, I guess if I were you, I'd get either the classic set or girl interest set (or both), depending on how your dd listens to books being read aloud. Then, when your ds reaches the Beyond age, you could do the Boy Interest set (or the classic if you either didn't do that with dd ,or if you didn't mind rereading them).

As far as LHTH, it does not have read-alouds, but you could easily have your little honey listen in on Beyond's books if he's able. My middle ds did that when I was reading to my oldest ds for Beyond. :D These are just a few ideas I had, but just know you can't really go wrong with picking a Storytime set - all 3 are outstanding. I wish I'd read more books such as these when I was that age - but, I guess that just makes me enjoy these all the more.

Christy,

I will say that the Classic Set requires a more seasoned listener, especially on a few of the longer titles that have been around awhile (as the language within them is very rich). So, if you've been reading aloud chapter books to your daughter for awhile, the classic set would work fine. However, if you're fairly new to reading chapter books with your daughter, I'd lean toward the Girl Set instead. :D Then, when your son gets there, you could use the Boy Set. In that scenario, the Classic Set could just be used as books on cd to listen to or for bedtime reading, if you want to read extra great books. :D

Just a thought.

Blessings,
Carrie

We've been reading through all of them! They're too good to pass up. Even the 4 year old enjoys them.
