I somehow missed this! :( But, you've gotten some wise insight here already, and have some good things to consider. It really sounds to me like she is right on the borderline and could really do either PHFHG or CTC. Since she is relatively new to CM skills, it may be wise to start with PHFHG. This would also give her a year to grow into more independence and practice using the PHFHG guide. Or, on the flipside, you could start CTC and maybe ease into it, doing it half-speed for a few weeks or a month, with the intent to focus on getting her used to CM skills and also familiarize her with the guide to build her independence. I guess I'd strongly weigh how able she would be to read the history spines of CTC, as the left side of the plans hinge on this, and it is meant to be independent. Either choice is a good one here! :D Both PHFHG and CTC are excellent programs, and I really think it just depends on your goals for dd - whether you'd like a year to focus in on learning CM and independence by doing PHFHG, or whether you'd like to hold her hand a bit first with CTC in the hopes that then she'd take off with that. Praying sure helps - so I've done that for you! :D HTH!

Wow! All of you never cease to amaze me how many choices and options there are to do. All of this guide, part of another, on and on it goes... Thank you for your thoughts on this. I plan to order in about a month, I think. We will finish out this year with a bang by starting new to Hod! That sounds totally backwards, but we're all excited about it! It will give us all something to look forward to at the end of summer.

Cierra REALLY REALLY loved the idea of CTC Science instead of Preparing Hearts Science. I am uncomfortable doing all of CTC with her right off, but I think she could do the science. I would rather her start off with Preparing so we can adjust to the new way of doing things, you know? But I guess she could always be in the next guide for Science. She would definitely do Preparing Extensions, English 5 and DITHOR 6/7/8. Has anyone else ever done this?

Well, after some thought and prayer on the matter, we will just do Preparing Hearts as written, with Extensions, DITHOR 6/7/8, and English 5. I'm not too crazy about changing things too much. One thing that she is really happy about is adding in Zoology 2 from Apologia. But, we won't add that in until we have found our groove, of course. Another neat thing is I think I will buy a frog habitat that we can all watch and learn from. It is a water frog, just in case you are wondering. They ship it to you in suspended animation. You watch it hatch and grow and change into an adult frog. They can live up to 5 years, so it will be somewhat like a new pet. But it will stay in the aquarium, of course! They all just love animals, so I know they will like this.

ETA: I will reevaluate the following year as I go instead of trying to have it all figured ahead of time. I must admit that was hard for me, but prayer does help!

Sounds like an awesome plan! :D I agree it is nice not to change things up too much, or you can lose the beauty of the connectedness of a guide. I think you'll love PHFHG and DITHOR too! Good idea to start PHFHG first and then add the science when ready. I think you'll find it to be a pretty full program on its own. I hope you Cierra and you have a great start! :D
