What to do next year?
What to do next year?
Ok. I started using LHFHG in Sept. for my 5 year old (she's 6 now!) and we're using all the workbooks and such for K. Next year she'll be ready to start 1st grade...so here is my question. Can i use LHFHG again and just use the 1st grade books? But wouldnt' that cause complete repition of the bible lessons, memory verses, reading time, etc??? Also my other dd will be 4 and could probably start LHTH but could possibly start some LHFHG which would be ideal so they could be doing the lessons at the same time. If not, do I have to move my 6 year old to Beyond and then just choose to either use LHFHG or LHTH for my 4 year old? I hope I'm making sense...I guess I'm wondering can if LHFHG be used two years in a row and not be repetitive????
Re: What to do next year?
I would not repeat the guide unless you feel strongly that your 4 year old could handle the material and you would be able to combine. In that case, going through the guide twice would make sense. Maybe you could use different Burgess books for storytime and just make up your own questions, so at least that would help add some more "newness." If I were you I would be likely to just leave my children in seperate guides. Use Beyond for your 6 year old and LHTH for your 4 year old. Even though your 4 year old may get some of LHFHG, I would hate for everything the whole way through to be just s tad too advanced. Beyond is a big step up from LHFHG, so when your younger one is 5 and doing that guide it could be even more of a stretch.

Re: What to do next year?
I would have to agree with the previous poster, repeating is not recommended and you're 4 year-old would probably struggle with LHFHG and most definitely with Beyond. My dd is halfway through Beyond and it is a lot of work and pretty advanced, I would not recommend it for a young 5 year-old, maybe for an older 5 year-old who had already been through LHFHG, like my dd, but it still was a bit of a struggle for her at the beginning. Best wishes!

I would also agree with the advice given. I would do Beyond and LHTH so that you have a break in between guides and your little one doesn't get into the upper manuals too early.

Re: What to do next year?
If you repeated LHFHG next year, the bible, fingerplay, etc boxes will be a repeat unless you didn't get through the whole guide this year. I think someone posted on here doing LHFHG over 2 years where they'd do the K options the first year and the 1st options the second year, but I think they were going half-speed in the guide so the other core boxes were not repeated. If you feel like your oldest didn't retain much of it, it may be fine to repeat.
I would lean towards Beyond and LHTH as well. LHTH is a great way to learn letter sounds. Your 4 yo won't need much as they are still Preschool age. I'd consider the needs of the oldest first and then see what parts you'd like for the younger one to sit in on and what else they could benefit from (storytime on their level, more crafts, etc). Good luck with whatever you decide!

Thanks everyone. I think going with Beyond and LHTH sounds like the best plan and makes the most sense!
