Poetry Memorization in Preparing

Post by brenm37 » Mon Oct 26, 2009 3:54 pm

We have really enjoyed memorizing poems by Robert Louis Stevenson in Units 12 and 13 of Preparing. My daughters do a lot of other memory work, so I thought they would protest. They didn't, and just to help them out, I memorized also! We each memorized 2 poems and have had fun presenting them and coming up with motions to go with the words. :D

Brenda,

This is so exciting! I must admit that I had never memorized any poetry, or ever been exposed to any classic poetry prior to homeschooling, and I have been learning to enjoy poetry right along with my boys too. My boys do seem to memorize much more easily than I do  , but I am memorizing some poetry too!

I need the hand motions to help me remember the poems! Thanks for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Sounds fun. Another inspiration for hand actions is to incorporate some sign language by looking up key words at http://www.aslpro.com in their dictionaries. I use it a lot to get signs for our memory verses.

That's wonderful to hear, Brenda! :D My ds really enjoyed this in PHFHG too! Right now he's memorizing a poem for CTC and thoroughly enjoying that as well. I am so glad our dc are learning to appreciate the fine arts in their education, as this was something lacking in mine. :D
