Oh My, we have hit a new level of question about Bible!

Post by water2wine » Wed Sep 30, 2009 12:12 pm

WOW! CTC and Preparing really have brought things up a notch. I am so excited by what I am seeing already in my kids! :D I have heard rumors told that they were full and they are, yummy and full! 8) But my goodness my kids are asking some intense questions! They do in general but we are hitting so much world view material here in our Bible and History between both programs it has their little imaginations soaring to greater heights. It's not the actual material like they don't get it or something, it is what the material leads them too in their head. The discussions we have. "When did Job happen (are we reading Job,uh, nope) after or before the flood because God and Satan battled and the flood must have been a great defeat to Satan." "What did the mark of Cain look like and was it the same kind of mark as the mark Satan will ask for to buy or trade or maybe something like the mark of the beast but God's opposite mark." Ok um not in the program but I am following you.

I have to say I am wonderfully warn out from all the questioning about God. :D My oldest daughter is not going outside to play with the kids when they go to stay behind and ask questions about other things completely not in CTC but some how related and she is just supposing and what do I think. Or else reading with me as I have my Bible time. She is just loving having the complete total attention of just me that I suppose does often get lost for the oldest child sometimes. So it has been wonderful to have her in her own program. I was a bit worried because she can tend toward getting by even though she is bright. But she is rising to the challenge of being more independent. I had given her things on the side to da last year and not had as much success but having it in the manual and having it tell her what to do I think is a huge factor in the result. It is her program and not me telling her time to do this extra stuff she knew was not part of the program, so therefore she could slack before and not have it hold anything up in the end.

I am so impressed with the worldview and perfect connection in CTC and Preparing. WOW! I knew it would be good, but this is better than what I had in my head. :D I have to say that yesterday I realized that my kids are asking so many out there questions for their imaginations about the OT and what does that mean about the future NT stuff (now part of that is we are reading in the NT on the side but the concepts are coming from HOD) that I started reading Revelation because I realize I need to, um, read up to answer some of these weird connections my kids make. I think when you realize you need to study areas of the Bible because your kids are asking things that are good connections but you can't answer them that is a good place to be. I did send them off today to research about Job and the timing and answer what that defeat might have meant to Satan in terms of the flood. (it's their question not mine  )

Anyway just excited you guys and had to share! :D I am so glad I heard God call us to HOD. I never could be doing this in my own! And just so ya know it is not genetic. These particular kids of mine are all completely biologically unrelated.

On a side note have to say that my little ones are loving Beyond as well. Already just the little bit we have done in LA (using the HOD manual) has turned them into writing, copywork machines. So while the others are expanding in their way the little ones are really going crazy in the LA dept. Who would think that the fact this year they get to spell would actually excite them. They like being in "big girl school". :D

One more day to go in the week. I promise to calm down by next week.

I'm so glad you shared! We had a rough day today. My boys have been sick (so we took it easy last week and into this week) and it's taking us so long to do the simpliest things. But, now that I think about it, they are both really asking some of those same kind of questions! They did ask about Job recently and we also discussed Cain's mark. Funny that those aren't in the guides directly but both our families have pondered about them. My oldest son especially is really thinking harder than he ever has before. He is making alot of progress and doing so well, but one or two rough days always seem to crowd the good things that are happening out of my mind.

Wow! That is encouraging to hear. I'm amazed at some of the discussions that we've had so far this year already and we're just in Beyond. I imagine lots of wonderful discussions lie ahead. Thanks for sharing!

It is so hard to do school when everyone is sick. I can so relate to that. Praying you all get better soon. :D

I am so glad to hear your kids are asking the same kinds of questions. And isn't it amazing they asked the same things. I never would have even thought of those things. But I sure am glad they are.

I totally agree that it was so refreshing to get back into school...and see those wheels start turning for Grant, too. What a blessing it is to be able to see our kids learn about God by seeing what He has done, thinking about what He's promised to do, and looking at what He wants THEM to do! :D (You don't have to calm down next week. But, you probably should pace yourself so you don't overdo it. )

In Preparing on Day 2, it suggests that I pray with Grant and he wants to pray, too. This has been such a great glimpse into his heart every week. It's neat to see him understand and apply scripture and ask for God's help in obeying it! And, every week, he thanks God that his mom and dad want to homeschool him and teach him about the Bible. :D  :D

I'm so thankful that you're having a real week of encouragement! :D (That'll be a boost for later when you'll need it, I'm sure.)

I completely agree that this is one of the best parts of homeschooling. :D I love the glimpses into the way my kiddos minds work. I miss that daily connection with them in the summer when we're much busier and on less of a schedule. It makes me realize how important the school-year is for brining us closer as a family! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
