Bigger Hearts Game Question!!

Post by sted » Tue Sep 29, 2009 3:40 pm

I was completing Unit 5/Day 1 of BHFHG and found the game under the title Storytime a little confusing. :? Is anyone able to explain the game?

Thank you :D

Okay, this is what we did.

Characters Setting Problem

1.Oliver Twist 1. haunted mansion 1. need to save $ from enemies

2.Lil' Orphan Annie 2. log cabin in the woods 2. too little food

3. Laura Ingalls 3. apartment in the city 3. lost a hat

4. Almanzo Wilder 4. small village in Norway 4. bad friends

5. Curious George 5. slums of London 5. need to find parents

6. Peter Lundstrom 6. orphanage in NYC 6. need to escape from villian

_____________ _______________ ____________________

Once we set this up (and if I had looked ahead, I could have done it the night before  ), we rolled the die for characters, then settings, and then problems. For one of them we kept rolling everything except the right answer, so we started checking off the ones that did not apply, until all were checked off except for the right one. For us the combination would have been 641, but it depends on which book you are reading and how you set up your "Game".

I will tell you that my kids really enjoyed this. They kept playing with it for off and on for the rest of the day - rolling the die and coming up with interesting scenarios. :D

Hope this helps, and I understand. I am very visual, and for me Seeing IS Believing!!

By the way, I did space between Characters, Settings, and Problem, but when I submitted it, everything came back together. Hope you can kind of see what I was trying to show you.

Thank you Ruth Ann! Now it makes sense. At first I was thinking we were suppose to write characters, setting and problems from the story we were about to read and I wondered how we were suppose to know those already :P It's funny how I can read something and it totally makes no sense but then with some help, the light bulb goes on. I think if Carrie would have written "any" character or settings or problems it would have made more sense at first to me.

Oh, now that I have read this over again, I see that there is a "right" answer based on your book. How do you do setting and problem if you haven't read them yet?

I just read the summary on the back of the book, and that gave me a general setting and problem. Otherwise, if I want a quick overview of a book, I read a page from the beginning, the middle, and the end. HTH!
