A few CTC questions.

Post by pbt1294 » Tue Sep 22, 2009 10:15 am

I think we are on our 4th week of CTC or I guess I should say 4th unit. I really love that they are written as units and not weeks. When we were using Sonlight I used to get so torn up about not finishing a week within a week. I know its silly, but that used to bother me so much; like I was a failure if I couldn't get to everything in a week.

Anyway, my question is about the dictation excersizes. One day it says do a dictation passage and then on another day it says do the first studied dictation passage? I'm a little confused. I just understood that you worked on the same dictation until it was right. Am I missing something? Am I supposed to go back and do a previous passage every now and then??? It specifically says: Day 1-Have students complete the first studied dictation passage Day 3 Have students complete one studied dictation exercise Day 4 Have students complete one dictation exercise All we do is pick up from where we left off. If she gets something wrong the day before we do it over. If not we just move on. Am I doing it right???

Also, we are doing the Hebrew meal tonight (unit 4 Day 3)! The cool thing is our neighbors just happened to be coming over tonight for supper. Their Jewish!!!! I know its supposed to be a simple activity, but I thought this would be a neat opportunity for our Jewish friends and us. I'm gonna let the kids dress up and of course my oldest is going to wear her head covering she made. Our neighbors are gonna bring some Hebrew side dishes. I'm really looking forward to it!!! I'm always looking for a way to share our faith with them so this is really neat!

Kyle,

Yes you are right about the dictation passage. You have them do it until they can do it correctly then they move onto to the next dictation passage. I believe it may be referring to the first dictation passage of the unit, but could be wrong.

We finished up unit four last week and did the Israel meal, it was so much fun and since dh had to work late that night we did it again the following night. We also dressed up for it and I made tunics for the girls. My 2nd daughter said she wanted to do this for her birthday! :D

Kyle,

Kay did a great job of answering your question. The guide is just referring to the first dictation passage of each unit. :D So you're doing it just right.

How wonderful that you will be sharing your Hebrew meal with your Jewish neighbors. What a wonderful idea! :D

Enjoy!

Blessings,
Carrie

Kay,

I'm so glad that your family enjoyed the Hebrew meal. You sound like such a creative mom to sew tunics for your girls! What a fun way to do the meal. :D

I love the idea of doing something similar for your daughter's birthday party. Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,
Carrie
