LHTH

Post by rni'smommy » Tue Sep 15, 2009 3:14 pm

Has anyone done LHTH with a 2yr old and not repeated it later on? Dd did LHTH with ds last year and I had planned on repeating it with her this year since she seemed like she wanted to but she is really not interested in it anymore. Will she be missing out on something if I just let her do her own thing until she is ready for LHFHG in a year or so?

She is 3yr 4mo now.

Personally, my son started LHTh at 3.5 yr old and my daughter when she turned 4yr old. They only did it one time thru. my son had a break in btwn finishing LHTH and LHFHG because of me having our 3rd child. actually we skipped the last 3 units because the baby came 3 weeks early.

Just let her do her own thing. it is amazing how many fun things they learn just by playing. And you can throw little fun "school" things in there as interested. Have fun! they are only little for so long. Play with Playdoh, make a mess with paint, play in tubs of water. you know all that fun, messy stuff! Just my opinion.

Your daughter will be just fine :D

I know she will do okay. It is just that we had so much fun with it last year when it was both of them together and this year trying to repeat it by herself(ds isn't really interested after doing his K work) she just doesn't want to. I just don't want her to miss out on doing it for real, because it was a lot of fun, but at the same time I don't want to force her since she doesn't really need it.

I started LHTH with my 2 yo dd and 4.5 yo ds, and she loved it. It turned out my 4.5 yo was geting a bit bored with some of it, so we moved on to LHFHG for him and dropped LHTH for now. Dd joins in the LHFHG rhymes, bible verse and art/science/drama activities and is perfectly content. I decided to wait on finishing LHTH with her until she's 3 or 3.5 yo since I know she'll get more out of the letter/number activities then. If we didn't have the songs and rhymes in LHFHG to do together, I might have continued half-speed or so...She still sings the A-A-Adam song :)

I'm doing LHTH with an almost 3 year old now. My plan for next year was to let her tag along with her older sister's bible time and whatever else she wanted to join in on. If she retains alot of the letter sounds, I will start her slowly with a phonics program. We use 1oo Easy. That with doing the calendar and crafts should be enough. If she doesn't remember a lot of the sounds, we'll repeat the review weeks of LHTH and individual letters as needed.

You could get whatever resources you didn't use last time with LHTH (i.e. the other children's Bible and the other devotional, also the music if you didn't do that before), and that would add a new slant to it. Then, you could maybe just read the Bible story, do the Fingerplay and letter flashcards, sing the song, and do the devotional each week. You could even add to it the Singapore math done before Earlybird Kindergarten and a very beginning phonics program if you wanted. :D
