First Day of Bigger and all smiles!

Post by cozyfamily » Sat Sep 05, 2009 7:14 am

Half-way through our first day of HOD my dd picked up the book and gave it a big hug. (Yes, I took a picture :D ) And this was before we got to "the fun side" of the page. She did start getting tired by the end of the day. But then we've never been able to cover so much in one day before - and since it was our first day everything took us a bit longer.

By the time we wrapped up the day singing Holy, Holy, Holy I was choked up with tears. Everything had such flow and continuity and ending the day with this hymn was icing on the cake.

If I thought I could make it work I'd scrap my 7th grade sons plans so that he could enter in with what we're doing in HOD.

cozyfamily,

It sounds like you had a wonderful first day! :D I love the thought of your daughter hugging her book. That is a precious image.

I must admit that singing "Holy, Holy, Holy" chokes me up too every time I sing it. It always reminds me of what a Holy Lord we serve, and how Almighty He is, yet He takes time for me! :D

We pray that you will have many more blessed days with Bigger Hearts ahead of you. Thanks for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie

We are only 6 units into Beyond, and I am already so eager to get to Bigger. The books look so great, and I can't wait to do the hymns.

Thanks for sharing! :D

Smart mom to take a picture of that special moment in time! Thank you for telling us about it. I'm so glad your dd enjoyed her first day, and the time will continue to get less and less as she gets used to the boxes. BHFHG is such a growing year for dc, how fun for you to have that ahead of you to see! :D

Same here! I hoped & dreamed that this would be all that it said it was & two days into it ~ I'm impressed. My dd is loving it! I'm loving the connections & that we still have a day left & how it truly is open & go [still pinching myself -didn't think it was possible!]. We start with the Bible & hymn ~ she is so excited to act out Proverbs 2:3-5 & then we sing & dance to "Holy,Holy, Holy"... and the fun beginning sets a great tone for our day. She absolutely loves the Phillis Wheatley biography. Had a blast with the art today, is enjoying the cheerful cursive & did great with the Science Notebooking assignment. I think I chose the best level for her to start HOD -she's a 9 yr old very proficient reader ~ we're doing Bigger with extensions. I've only changed the math [Math Mammoth] & the dictation as she is a fantastic speller ~ we are doing a mixture of the unit Bible verses, portions of some of the poems, & some quotes on friendship. There is actually time to do other things that I've longed to do with her :D & time to spend with my high schooler~ yipppeee!!! :D

Lavishlyloved,

I'm so glad to hear about your little honey too! It sounds like you are on a great path and are off to a wonderful start. We often kid moms that the hardest part of HOD is choosing the right level and figuring out what to order!

Seriously though, your hard work in placing your daughter paid off! We pray you continue to have a terrific year with Bigger Hearts. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks Carrie! :D Had another fun day today ~ she loved making the balloon globe & afterward insisted that we spin it, as though it were orbiting, to one another ~ a fun game of catch & spin & an opportunity to remind her how great big our God is as we drew a size analogy between us & the earth we had created [the balloon globe] & God & the earth He created. I loved the biography talk about responsibility & persistence. She really looked thoughtful over that one. I'm SO very excited about this year of Bigger ~ not feeling the usual overwhelmed, how will I ever keep this up for a year feeling of sinking. Thanks again for a great program!

Oh, one question for the moms.... I was amazed to find that my very fit & active dd couldn't do a sit up! Has anyone else encountered this? I showed her how [an amazing feat as I've had 6 c-sections & have no abdominal muscles left to speak of] & she still couldn't -yes, I did hold her feet. How do I teach her how to do a sit-up? Perhaps, persistence???!!!
