Re: LHTH concept of counting by 2's.........
I started me kids using counters and counting the 1 in a whisper, now count the 2 loudly, 3 as a whisper, 4 loudly. Eventually, we were able to just do the skip count once they "got" the concept. HTH.

I like daisy's thing. That is actually really smart. I have done counting for chocolate chips or cheerios and some how that food thing putting it in groups then when you say it you get to eat it does the trick. We've made pictures with yummy things and ate them by twos or threes or fours and counted. It worked for us. Anything with food is good around here.

those are really good ideas:) I was using marbles with no good result I was wondering also is there a "good way" to word it? I will try to chocolate chip idea ( his favorite) and I will also try counting the even numbers louder.

MUS uses the way of whisper 1, then louder 2 and so on. my son is almost 6 now and recently finished up the lessons with counting by 2s. We are in LHFHG. He went thru LHTH at an earlier age and i just didn't worry about it then. My daughter who is 4.5 and has 5 weeks to go in LHTH can count to 10 just great and she didn't like it when i started the 2s. (and we are supposed to be on counting 3s) i am not worrying about it and will teach that concept later.

I really like the whisper on the odd numbers thing to teach them counting by two's. I'll have to try it!

We just randomly throughout the day break into song, so I've started just randomly singing anything they are having trouble with. 2's, 3's, 5's, 10's... address, phone number... anything I want them to learn.
ETA: we tried the whisper thing and my kids just started randomly whispering numbers

Re: LHTH concept of counting by 2's.........
A veteran homeschool mom recommended to me using songs with skip counting in them. The one she recommended is called One Hundred Sheep. It is basically Bible stories put to song with skip counting in them (2s, 3s, 4s, 5s, 6s,...through 10s). Both of my kids (ages 6 & 3) can sing along with any song, so when we do the Count on Me, we start singing the song, and then he is able to get the blanks filled in. At 3, he doesn't totally understand the "skipping" concept, but my 6 yr old does. For her, we use a yardstick and her finger to jump the numbers when she's skip counting. The veteran mom also said that in her family, when they did the songs for pre-K and the younger elementary years, by the time they had to memorize the multiplication facts, they did it very quickly.
This is just what we do. HTH...

I honestly don't remember where I got mine. We have had it for a few years. I bet you could search for "One Hundred Sheep" on line and find some places that carry it.

Re: LHTH concept of counting by 2's.........
Hello,
My son is doing LHFHG, and the way I am teaching him to count by 2's is when we do our calendar time. I have all the odd numbers in black and all the even numbers in red. We say our odd and even numbers each day. I am teaching him that when he says the even numbers he is also counting by 2's. It is working really well. He can count by 2's to 10 very easily right now and before too long, I am sure he will be able to go further.
Now, even though we have just started a new month and only have four days up so far, I am still having my son tell me as many odd and even numbers that he can remember each day (we began school Aug. 10th). I do have him tell me in order so that there is no confusion later on. He easily gets 1,3,5,7, & 9 for odd and then 2,4,6,8,10 for even (or counting by twos). I am very impressed with this method. He grabbed the three yesterday for calendar time and said "this is black, so it is an odd number".
Anyway, it is just an idea. Have fun with your learning and have a wonderful day! : )))

We also do the "whisper" thing. We have a skip count music CD as well, which is where I got the idea. It is a great CD. Here's a link:

The ladies are doing a terrific job of answering your questions! They have so many great ideas.
When we did LHTH, for the "Count on Me" days, we just drew the objects in the box. Then, pointed to each object one at a time and counted it, wrote the number underneath on the line and went on pointing, counting and writing the numbers on the line. As a last step, we went back and pointed to only the numbers on the lines and said each one, '2', '4', '6', '8', '10', '12'.
We have also used the Skip Count Kids Bible CD with our kiddos when they were around second and third grade to help them as they eased into multiplication.
Blessings,
Carrie
