Beyond Little Hearts History Books

Post by suzanne » Tue Sep 01, 2009 7:06 am

Good morning!

Regarding the history books used for BLHFHG, specifically, Stories of the Pilgrims and Boys and Girls of Colonial Days, does anyone know what or how much was edited and why in the version published by CLP versus the original works. For example, was CLP trying to make the content more appropriate for young ears? etc.. I've seen some reviews where folks love CLPs verison of those books and other reviews where people preferred the classic version. I'm just curious to know some of the differences b/w CLPs version and the original work.

thanks for any input!

Bump, because I would like to know this, too. I am moving my 7yo son down from Bigger Hearts to Beyond very soon. He is not ready for Bigger yet!

Thanks,
Liz

suzanne,

I am unsure as to how much was edited by CLP in "their" version. I know they tried to stay as close to the original text as possible and that they have added their own pictures, end of chapter questions, and even added maps to some of their texts. American Pioneers and Patriots would be the most changed from its original version. The page numbers within our guides, do match CLP's versions, making it harder to use a different version. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I think over the years I have had BOTH copies, even at the same time. From what I recall, the text was almost identical, if not the same. I believe the format was changed...subheadings and the like, and I know the pictures and page numbers changed. I didn't prefer one over the other, both were lovely.
