We did it!

Post by threegreatkids » Wed Aug 26, 2009 9:29 am

We just finished our first day of BHFHG with dd 8, and she loved it...especially the history. She said, "Mom, can we please read a little more history?" I replied, "Of course, on our next school day!" Tomorrow I will do LHFHG with ds 6, and then Friday both programs. I think HOD is going to be a lovely way to do school :D
Every summer we always pray about school options for each dc, and a few weeks ago the Lord surprised us by leading us to enroll dd 9 in the local Christian School. She started today, too...bittersweet. We anticipate bringing her back home next year to do CtC. We are so thankful that the 4th grade teacher is a good friend and a wonderful, godly teacher.
Praying that this is a good week for others who are starting, too!

HOORAY! You're off to a great start! I'm glad you remained strong and didn't jump into the next history reading (been there, done that, NOT a good idea as it messes up the plans). :D Anyway, congrats on a great first day and many more to come! :D

Yes, I learned that the hard way, too. When we were sampling the first 2 units of LHFHG last May my dh did a morning of school with ds when he had a day off from work. Dh did a great, great job and excitedly told me that ds loved the Reddy Fox book so much that they read 5 chapters. I wanted to shout, "Eeeek, what were you thinking?" but I think I just nicely said, "Oh, that's great that he loves it so much. Next time it might be easier if you stick to the schedule and read an extra non-school book afterward." At least I hope that's what I said  We are still going to be re-reading chapters this week, but that's OK since it's been two months

Too funny! :D That was nice your dh did school, and a very smart response on your part to the reading ahead he did. I'd have reread it too, like you're doing - the activities are awesome and not to be missed. :) Have a super day!
