When you say "half speed"....

Post by Tree House Academy » Wed Aug 26, 2009 6:19 pm

how do you implement that? What do you do to make the program half speed? I know you can cut it down to 4 days a week (I plan to do that next year when my older is doing the 4 day a week guide), but other than that, how do you do, say Bigger, at "half speed?"

We are trying to do LHFHG half-speed with my 4.5 year old. So, we do half the boxes one day, and half the boxes the next day.

I think some people do left side on one day, and then right side the next day. I personally am not real comfortable with that plan for Beyond and up, since I prefer to do math and language arts 4 days a week and not just 2. I'm not sure how I would approach slowing down Bigger. I have no doubt that my oldest will be ready for it when we get to it next year. My 6 year old (will be almost 7 then) may or may not be totally ready, but I won't be able to slow it down just for him. He'll still do his math/LA at his level, and I can tweak other assignments if necessary. For example, right now in Beyond, he is not able to copy much of the poem (we are doing a separate penmanship program too) so I don't make him.

i am not to Bigger yet, but my son is doing (almost done) LHFHG Basics side and after all that is done, we will do all of the History side with the next level of reading, math, and our own storytime and copywork. He started this when he was almost 5yrsold

My daughter will be doing just the History side of LHFHG (starting at 4.5yrs old)and then next year we will add the Basics side while she does the History side of BLHFHG.

so each of my kids, so far, have started half-speed. we just added little things here and there as they were interested also, like science for son and phonics for daughter.

Hope that helps a little
