sample CTC dictation passages?

Post by playschool » Sat Aug 22, 2009 10:15 pm

I could not find any on this website. My dd (6th grade) will be doing Preparing with extensions and using the dictation, but I am concerned after looking at the upper level of dictation in Preparing that it may be a little too easy for her. Is it permissible that someone could give me a sample of the dictation passages included in CTC so that I could see if that would be more appropriate for her? Thanks!

playschool,

Here are several sample passages from Level 5 dictation (from CTC):

Passage 4:
A fireman's life is often in great
danger. He dashes into the flames and
never thinks of himself. He must be
brave to do this.

Passage 33:
These early Puritans also knew the value
of a thorough education. In every colony
schools were established as soon as churches.
Sometimes the teaching and the preaching
were done in the same building.

Passage 67:
Oh, the doll's house! It was a stone-
fronted mansion with real glass windows
and a real balcony. There were three
distinct rooms in it; a sitting room and a
bedroom elegantly furnished and a little kitchen.
- Charles Dickens

Passage 101:
This bell first proclaimed the adoption of
the Declaration of Independence, July 4,
1776. It was rung annually until the metal
finally cracked. It was then placed in the
State House, where its echoes are forever
silent.

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks, Carrie! I think those are more on her level. I will have to save my pennies so I can order the CTC manual.
