Another great first day!

Post by creekmama » Mon Aug 10, 2009 3:45 pm

Hooray! We started LHFHG today, and we loved it! Peter's favorite activity today was the hands-on math--probably because I let him eat the leftover Cheerios. I am completely satisfied with our first day experience. I have been concerned about how it would work out when my part-time tutoring job starts in the fall. Would my dh feel comfortable doing it? Now I know he will. I also loved how easy it was to involve my 2dd. Now I'm thinking she needs LHTH. She loved the action rhyme and Hide 'em in Your Heart. Should I take the plunge and add it now?

it can't hurt her to let her join in where she likes to! just don't let her take over her siblings school hour!

My China Girl and I started today as well in Bigger. she was so scared of her spelling words.. but Mom I can't even read yet.. which is hog wash she can read just not every thing... Then all the spelling words were at, an, had, has ect.. and she was Mom these are easy! So funny.. her sister has spent the summer proving she its "the speller" in this house.. And dear mai mai (little sister) just figured out that may not be the case.. lol!

WE had a great day only variation is I drew a world map on the floor with chalk instead of taping one. cause "well we ain't got no carpet" as my neighbor says and the tape didn't stick to well to the concrete.. we had a riot!

Hi Kelley - that sounds like a super first day! I've also found it's easy to have someone sub in for me, if need be. I think I'd wait to add LHTH until you start tutoring, and then see if you still think it can be added. You could always do that when she's 3, but I know it's tough to wait - I'm grappling with that same decision with my little guy this year. :D

Hey, Tansy. I love your chalk solution. That would be fun to do outside in the driveway, too!

Julie, thanks for your advice to hold off for a bit on LHTH. The little one is very happy for now just to sing the verse and do the action rhyme. No need to rush in!

creekmama,

I'm so glad that your first day went well and that your little guy enjoyed his math and his day! It helps so much to finally get underway to get a feel for how everything will go. :D

My hubby has taught from almost all of our guides quite easily, and he admits that his gifting is not in teaching!

Thanks for sharing! :D

Blessings,
Carrie
