Time periods in HOD and American Girl books

Post by jewel7123 » Tue Aug 11, 2009 3:57 pm

I would like to get all the American girl series books for my girls eventually, but I was wondering if anyone can help me out and tell me which girls fit in with which HOD guides? I need to know what time periods each guide covers, and then I guess find out the same for the American girl books. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi Jennifer - well I've got all boys, so I won't be able to help match the American Girl series  . But, I can link you to a page that gives the time periods - just scroll down to "History" :

Awesome, thanks for that! What I'd really love to do is be able to read the books about a particular girl when we are studying the same theme as her books. For instance, read about Addy when we are studying slavery and the Civil War. Read about Kirsten when we study the Pioneers....read about Felicity when we study the Pilgrims, etc. If that's possible to do, lol!

From that list, Felicity would fit better with the Revolutionary War and not the Pilgrims in case that matters to you.

Felicity and Elizabeth are better suited to the Reveloution. The two girls are friends and one is a patriot and one is a loyalist.

My dd has Elizabeth so this is why I'm versed on them!

But,I do know that Addy is a good fit for the civil war period and Kirsten is a pioneer so she's a good fit for that time frame as well.

I may start reading some of kaya's books now since we are doing Beyond and are in the beginnings. You can find these books for fairly cheap at thrift stores or yardsales!

Good luck.

And don't forget the movies after you've read the books. There's one for Kit, Felicity, Samantha and Mollie.

BTW, Samantha is 1908 I believe and is great for the Industrial Revolution and Suffragette movement.

Oooooo, I'm so glad my second dc is a girl! I can't wait to do American Girls! I've always wanted to do that Felicity tea party thing at Colonial Williamsburg. Do they still do that?
