CTC Users: Which Read-Aloud set did you choose...
I am still up in the air about which set I want to use, so tell me what set(s) you picked and why.

I picked the history set because it looked so good and my dd & I both love history. I also got the girls set to do with DITHOR!

I chose the HIstory set because my daughter is older (6th grader); however, she chose many of the girl interest books to read for DITHOR.

We ordered the History set. We already own a few in the boys' set and I love having my dc do history-related readings.

I picked the history set.
My daughter had read several of the other books. I'm doing read-alouds also with her brother's curriculum so I made sure to pick ones she had not read before. That way the kids get two read-alouds a day. We've always done that. I read one and Dad reads one.

Great question! I picked to do the History Set, but I am also getting the Boy Interest for him to read at leisure. I'll probably have him read the Girl Interest (maybe pick and choose from that according to his interests) too. I've decided to try to build our own home library slowly with HOD book selections because they are so good.

I actually picked the Girl Interest set for my 10 yo dd. I thought for sure I would go with the history when I first found HOD and CTC. (They look so great!) However, after looking at my schedule, I realized it would make more sense timewise to use the Girl Interest, since my 6yo dd would be interested in listening to those as well, and I could read them to my girls for our storytime before bed at night.

I am using a bit of the girl set but am using books from the RC curriculum because they are so rich in wholesomeness and vocabulary. My first 2 children used a combo of RC and AO in the RC manner, which is alike, and I cannot say enough about the book lists from either. They are heady though and that is why I am using HOD with my younger set. Not quite as academic and more overtly Christ centered and I wanted this for this season. Just splash some of the other in with HOD and I have what I want for my children. YEAH!!!

I'm trying to find books at library or used book stores that are from the basic history opt in the CTC or hopefully books of the same genre. We are using LLATL for our language arts and reading program. Her first book study is Carry On, Mr. Bowditch which is one of the books in the boy interest pack and does fit the first 6 weeks of story time as a biography.
So far now I think dd will still be challenged enough with reading until I can either buy the pkg or find all the books.
If anyone has any suggestions for books that would be similiar to the titles given in the pkgs that I could possibly find at the local library would be very helpful. I did find The Cat of Bubastes in book form. None of my local libraries have any of the other books that are listed for the first six weeks of CTC program.
