CTC Schedule

Post by Blessedwith4 » Tue Jul 21, 2009 5:47 am

I am set to order the HOD CTC curriculum as I am very excited about this program. I am new to hsing and HOD - this will be the 1st curriculum I buy. :) At this time, I cannot afford to purchase all the books required, but I have many that I have gotten on request at the library and some that I have purchased at a discount book store. With that in mind, can someone please let me know what books I will need at the beginning? So that I will be able to get going? I would like to know what I would need for the first 6 weeks, if possible. I really appreciate the help. I have my heart set on this program and do not want cost to hold us back.

Thank you again.

I wanted to just jump in and say welcome and congratulations of beginning the journey of homeschooling. :D You made a great curriculum decision. I so wish I had started out with my kids with HOD. None of us have the actual teaching manual yet to let you know how the books are used. It will be out soon though. I do for now know this because of the way HOD is designed. The Economy Package is the absolute bare bones of the program. Everyone wants that. The next thing would be to decide on Science. And then things become recommended but optional. I do use the entire program and recommend that if at all possible and you can add the story books as they are read. There may also be others even in the economy that might not be used in the beginning but that information is in the manual for the program that is coming around the first week of August we are told, YEAH!. I just did not want you to think your question was being ignored. :D Carrie has let us know that it is at the printer and scheduled to arrive on time around the first week of August. So usually the orders form HOD arrive lightening fast but if you were to order the manual or the economy package you would receive the manual in normal time that most companies take. Also know if you can't order all the books at once HOD is very fast at shipping so you can order as you go and have confidence that will work for you. :D

Welcome to HOD! You are going to love it! :D

Welcome to HOD!! You're going to love this curriculum! If you want to know which books you will need for the first week you can click on this link to see the first week of CTC: http://www.heartofdakota.com/pdf/CTC-first-week.pdf. That way if you want, you will be ready to start as soon as you get your manual. Then you can look through the manual to see what you need for the next few weeks. Looking forward to seeing more posts from you as you enjoy CTC this year. We will be using it next year. :D

I believe also that the books are listed in the packages (excluding the economy package) in the order that they are used.

Welcome to the HOD Board, Lisa! :D I'm using CTC next year, so we'll have to swap stories. :D I'm so glad you have found HOD - it has been such a blessing for our family, and I know it will be for yours too. As a new homeschooler, you will really appreciate the layout of the guide and the way the plans are written. I do not prepare ahead of time to teach each day, and the plans are easy to pick up and teach once you're in the rhythm of things. In general, you need things in this order: the Economy Package, the Science Economy Add-on, one Basic Package, and then you'd figure out what you wanted for the "choices" materials. I'd encourage you to collect as much of this as you can, since it makes the day to day flow so smoothly, and covers all your bases academically so well. When Carrie gets a chance, I know she'll pop in and let you know which specific books you'll need for the first 6 weeks. I'm glad you are going to be homeschooling, and it will be nice to get to know you! :D

For the first six weeks you'll need the following:

Economy Package:
HFHTT: CTC guide
The Story of the Ancient World
Genesis: Finding Our Roots
A Child's Geography Vol. II
Student Notebook Pages
What in the World Vol. I

Science Add-on:
Land Animals of the Sixth Day

Basic Package (depending on the option you're using):
The Boy Interest and Girl Interest books are not scheduled by page number but only by genre in CTC, leaving the pacing of those books up to you. Each genre does last 4 weeks or 16 days, but you can read more than one title during that time (as long as it fits the genre being studied). The first genre is biography, followed by adventure.

Basic Package History Interest Set Option:
Dinosaurs of Eden
The Golden Bull
The Boy of the Pyramids

Possible choices to decide upon:
Drawn into the Heart of Reading
Rod and Staff Grammar
Philippians 2 CD
Write with the Best
DK Illustrated Family Bible
Singapore Math

Extension Package titles (only if you have an older student):
Dinosaurs by Design
Cat of Bubastes Audio Book (Weiss)

Blessings,
Carrie
