What level DITHOR
What level DITHOR
We have done two genres in DITHOR and just started our 3rd. My son is doing well. I started him student book level 2/3, he is in 3rd grade, with level 2 and 3 books. (just depended on what I thought he would like) He has always done Abeka readers (although he did go through the emergent readers 2 years ago). I started with level 2 and 3 books because I wanted to ease him into it. He loves to read. But was hesitant to do the pages in the workbook. He reads above level, 6th grade. Which brings me to the question. Since I have done a couple of genres now with him should I move his book levels up and keep him at the student book 2/3 or should I move him up in both? I would really appreciate any and all suggestions. He has enjoyed the books he has been reading but sometimes makes a comment that the books are too easy (not in a negative way necessarily). Hope I have given enough information...oh what to do??????

Blessings,
Michelle

Re: What level DITHOR
I think I'd up the level of the books and keep the student book at level 2/3. Since he is wanting harder books, and he is still needing to grow into the student book skills, this would be a nice match. I'm so glad he is enjoying it and reading so well! We've enjoyed DITHOR for a lot of years in our home, and it's still going to be a hit next year. You are wise to fine-tune the books to fit your ds's reading preferences, while still making sure he learns the necessary reading skills in the student book.

Re: What level DITHOR
Hi Michelle,
I agree with Julie and if he were my son I would bump him up a level in the books, but keep him in the 2/3 workbook. I don't know if you had seen the other levels of DITHR, but they are very similarly laid out. I also want to encourage you, myself and all moms of boys this age - they love the reading fun, but typically struggle over the written work! We loved Bigger - hope you all are!
Also, if he's loving reading - Did you see that in the back of you Bigger book the Bibliography for Suggested Storytime Titles - all organized by genre! From what you had posted about your son & I see that you are using the extensions - he'll love any and all of these titles too!

Re: What level DITHOR
Michelle,
I completely agree with the ladies that I'd keep your son in the Level 2/3 Student Book but up the level of his reading material. That way you can keep the writing to a minimum but still challenge your son's ability in reading. You may want to peek at the Level 4/5 Boy Titles in our DITHR package as some of those may be of interest to him too! Here's that link: http://www.heartofdakota.com/DITHOR45-boys-pack.php
My avid reading boys have also enjoyed many of the 4/5 Girl Interest Titles too!
Blessings,
Carrie
