How do I use this curriculum?

Post by aprildpearson » Mon May 25, 2009 5:48 pm

Hi! I am so excited to be doing HOD. I am a stay-at-home mom of 7, and God has called me to start homeschooling this year. So, I am going to start with my oldest 2, then add more each year. My oldest two are girls, one just turned 9 and will be in 4th grade in the fall 2009, and the other will be 11 in July and will be in 6th. I will be purchasing the new curriculum, for ages 9-11. How do I use this curriculum with the age difference? Are there things that I do different with each one? I have never homeschooled before, and although I am sooo excited, I feel a little intimidated by all the info! Can you help me?

That's awesome! I'm so glad you've decided to HS and use HOD. I'm pretty new to HOD, but I believe your children will share all but math and English. For those, you just pick the appropriate level for each of your children.
7 awesome kids!

3 graduated
4 at home this fall
DD6 Beyond
DS10 Preparing
DS13 MTMM
DS16 online high school

Welcome to homeschooling and to the HOD Board! :D We're glad to have you here.

As far as your two oldest kiddos go, if you haven't already had a chance to check out the placement chart, then you'll want to take a peek at it to make sure that CTC is the best fit for your kiddos. :D Here's a link to the chart: http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php

Next, once you've had a chance to check out the placement chart, if you get a chance to pop back in and share where your kiddos place on the first page of the chart in the areas of reading (just give us a couple titles that your girls are currently reading easily), writing (let us know if they can write paragraphs, easily write creatively, follow directions on their own etc.), grammar (are they diagramming yet), and math (are they pretty much on grade level, excelling, struggling, etc.), we can help guide you in a more specific placement in those areas. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Welcome to the HOD Board! You are going to have such a great year ahead of you homeschooling with CTC. :D We'll be doing CTC next year too, so we'll have to swap stories about it. :) I'd love to help with ideas about how to customize it for your dc and will definitely check back to see what you can share after checking out the placement chart. :D I'd guess you would just need a few different things in the areas of LA and math, and you'd be set. :D
