Can I just say how much I love this?

Post by momontheprairie » Fri May 22, 2009 10:05 am

We are doing Little Hearts and now just started Preparing. I wanted to keep doing Bigger  , but I realized that my CM educated kids needed the written narrations and longer dictations that Preparing offers. I console myself by the fact that my youngest two will really enjoy it in a couple of years. :)

Anyway, it is 10:58 am and I have completed BOTH Little Hearts and Preparing. My kids are still working on their math lessons (extra work out of Practical Arithmetic), but overall we did everything. We started school at 7:30 and it was a not-too-intensive day (no dictation and they did their shields on their own) so 3 and a half hours is perfect. By the time math is finished we will have four hours under our belt.

I am very moved by how the bible lessons intermingle with history and science. It is so perfect.

I ADORE little hearts. My daughter is just about 5 and it is absolutely what I would have put together myself if I had the time. I had the Steve Green videos from a decade ago that I pulled out to use for memory work. How neat that my youngest can use these songs as part of her school time. :D

Carrie,

Isn't it great when you find a good fit to be able to help you teach your kids?!? :D HOD has been that for us, too. I'm going to be moving on to Preparing and LHFHG in August with my crew. (Maybe I'll have to peek at your schedule when I get in the "schedule mood" later this summer. ) It sounds like you're having a great time. And, I totally understand being sad about having to miss a great program like Bigger. Grant was ready for Bigger this year, and it's been perfect, but I was a little sad that he didn't get to do the other HOD programs 1st.

Carrie,

I'm so glad that you've had such a good day and that you're getting a chance to enjoy your HOD programs. Thanks so much for sharing your enthusiasm. :D

I think you had a question in a different thread that confused me a bit, but this thead helps me understand more about why you've decided to make the move from Bigger to Preparing Hearts. We pray it will be a blessing to your kiddos. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

I have to say it was really, really hard to move to Preparing instead of Bigger. Bigger was working just fine, but I had to "bump" a lot of things for my oldest and I just came to realize that Preparing could be done without all the "tweaking". Since my kids did core 3 from Sonlight last year, which covers early American history, I felt it was fine to drop it for the time being. We were having so much fun though!

Carrie, after reading some of my previous posts I was confused myself.

Anyway, thank you ladies. This is a really nice board. :D

momontheprairie,

I agree with you that less tweaking is good for us at our house too! :D I'm so glad that you've found the right HOD fit for your family and are enjoying your journey.

Thanks for sharing!

Blessings,
Carrie
