Organization idea

Post by simplepamom » Sat May 16, 2009 9:00 am

I just had to share this idea. With all the readers, and me being very disorganized, I was very worried about how I Would find and keep everything organized etc. (this is especailly for planning ahead thinking I will eventually own several different
curriculum years waiting for my next kids to get to it....)

So here is the plan- I had my hubby pick up the small rectangular colored stickers- like you would use at yard sales or to label files maybe. Each 'curriculum' is going to get a color of sticker- for now DITHOR will get green, and Bigger is getting pink. So each book in that curriculm set will get a rectangular sticker of that color. THen, for readers (story time, or DITHOR)- All Biography's will get a red dot drawn inside the colored rectangle, non fiction will get a blue square, fantasy will get a green triangle, mystery will get a gold star, folk tale will get a silver star (these will be stickers)- or use different colored smiley face stickers insdie the curriculum appropriate color square. FOr DITHOR, I will likely assign a color for each level- so there will be a red 2 if it is a 2, a blue 3 if it is a 3, etc.... (these numbers will be small, on hte square)

This sounds like a great way to organize all of those wonderful books, Brenda! The labels should make each book quick to find and use. :)

I have some small dot stickers but I don't have enough colors. They only come in 4 colors. So the shapes would be helpful. Or maybe any kid stickers that are small. And somebody else (sorry, can't remember who) put the readers in baskets from Walmart according to genre. I did get those baskets btw. They're great, they fit perfectly. But I'm going to use the small dots for curriculum and the basket for genre readers.

That was me! I used the baskets and sorted by genre. I also labeled each book with a marker on the top corner by the binding I didn't want books taken out then put in the wrong boxes. I know my kids and that stickers would be peeled off, so I needed something permanent. We have 3 kids, with the 4th on the way, so I know we'll be keeping them all a long time so marking them wasn't an issue. My labels look something like this:

Mystery
Bigger
Girl Read Aloud

OR

Fantasy
DITHOR
Level 3

and for those that are in two sets,

Biography
DITHOR Level 3
Preparing Boy ReadAloud

Yes it was!!!!! Sorry, I have really bad allergies and am having a hard time staying awake and being coherent. I wanted to tell you that Walmart still did have the baskets. I was so jazzed and they fit on the shelves so perfectly!

See I also want to put another color dot for the genre, but like I mentioned, I don't have enough colors in the dots. A marker color may be a good idea!
