My first HOD Box Day!

Post by Michelle » Tue May 12, 2009 7:35 am

Everyone is right about the speedy shipping! I got my boxes only 3 days after ordering! I ordered LHFHG with 1st grade options and the Beyond guide (for math only) for my dd age 5.5 and PHFHG and DITHOR 2/3 with Book Pack 3, for my ds age 9.5. We will be using them the next school year when my dd will turns 6 and my ds turns 10. :D

They came on Saturday when I was busily making lunch and we had to get out the door to my mother-in-laws and wouldn't be back until dark. So.....I did have to let those boxes sit until the next day, but what a fun Mother's Day opening up all the boxes of books! :D My kids loved the books until..... they saw the empty boxes! One was quickly used by my ds for a Lego container and the other for stuffed animals by my dd! Some things never change!

I have all the books proudly displayed on a table in the basement and there they'll stay so I can look at them all I like! I'm even going to have a friend of mine over to see them. :) Everything looks perfect for us. I had pondered getting higher level guides, but after seeing everything in person I think I made the wisest choice. Of course, with the help of this board! Seems like a very FULL curriculum in person and I think there is no need to worry about choosing too easy for most dc.

Thanks again and God bless, Michelle :)

How exciting!

One word of warning though- if you keep the books out, your children might try to read them before it's time to! A lot of moms have to hide them!

Michelle,

I'm so excited that you've received your packages. What fun you'll have going through them all. :D

It IS a good idea to hide the books though, as those avid readers love to curl up with a new book wherever they can get their hands on one (or more)!

Blessings,
Carrie

Yaaay! Box Day is so much fun. We'll be new to HOD this year as well (starting in August) and it's hard to keep myself from reading through everything. It's just so beautifully written! :D

Oh dear, I wish I didn't have to say this but...I really don't have any problems leaving books out. :( My dd is 5.5 and loves books being read to her, but she's not ready to read any of the books by herself. My ds (9) is NOT into books and I really wish he loved to read like I did when I was little. He will read what I tell him, when I tell him, with no problem, but he doesn't pick up books to read for pleasure on his own. He's a very creative kid, always thinking and creating. He'd play with Legos all day and not even look at a book if I'd let him. :( I was hoping that all these great books could spark a love for reading. He'll read them and enjoy them, I'm sure, just not sure if he will ever CHOOSE to read. Glad I got that off my chest!

However, I can say that a little competition did help. A while ago my dd began reading some k12 phonics readers and just seeing her read made my ds read more in those 2 days than he did in the last 8 months! :) My dd was great. She insisted on finishing every book she began and would not quit. She took an hour one day on a book that was over 30 pages with 2-4 lines per page and she just would not give up! She now only reads one story in a book each day, but that unknowing bit of competition seemed to spark my ds reading.

Thanks for all your "well wishing", I'll let you all know how it goes!

God bless, Michelle

Oh, I'm so glad your boxes came quickly, Michelle! :D It is sooo hard to wait once you've ordered, so HOD takes that struggle away. :) I think you'll find your ds grows to love reading more and more with HOD. The books are just top-notch choices. Anyway, enjoy looking over all of your things - bet you can hardly wait to start!
